Sayonara Pet - Nissan Sunderland project 1985

Комедия

Film made in 1985 about newly employed workers in the Nissan factory in Sunderland and their training in Japan. It covers how it affected their families, the cultural differences to overcome and the return to Sunderland to launch the first model. I worked in this factory as a technical onsite representative for a paint company from 1986 to 1991. It was the hardest job I ever had but the compensation was living in the North East. Please feel free to leave comments and anecdotes. Retired now so dug the old tape out of the loft.

What an amazing insight into the working and home lives of these pioneers who put everything into setting up a brand new Nissan car plant back in the 1980's, no mean feat. The greatest respect to all who were there at the beginning and those who work there now. I have just taken delivery of my third new Nissan Juke Tekna +. I'm so proud to purchase cars that are designed, engineered and manufactured here in the UK. Thank you Nissan for putting your faith in the UK.

Really goes to show how Washington has changed, and the plant in general, and the way cars are built, they're clapped together without the least care in the world, its films like these that should be archived for future generations to enjoy

I wasn't long born when this was filmed, but love seeing this kind of glimpse into the world and country at around the time I was born. Fascinating to see the early days given the current public discussions about this plant, as well as giving a bit of a glimpse into life in NE England at the time. Appreciate the effort made to post this, it's appreciated.

Many thanks. It's a fascinating story and I think it's not over yet depending on how the Brexit trade talks go.

@@stevemarks9360 I'm truly sorry to hear that. I remember him from the site and he was always a friendly face with a smile - putting him in a minority as far as supplier representatives like myself were concerned.
