I had figured that he was planning to sell as much of the old drivetrain as possible, given how meticulous he was being with the breakdown prior to extraction. Glad you're getting what appears to be a fairly decent engine and transmission out of the deal. The 300ZX is a wholly underappreciated sports car/grand tourer. I suspect that the reason it never got hugely popular is because of the difficulty associated with fitting bigger turbos into the engine bay. It's pretty well shoe-horned in there in the NA configuration, and you'd have a hard time seeing the ground from the top of the engine bay with the stock twin turbo system installed. Try to go larger and you make it practically water-tight by how packed everything is in there. It can be done, but it's a damn sight more difficult compared to cars with more spacious engine bays. But it's so pretty that I forgive this deficiency.

I thought to myself a lot of vacuum lines com'on, man, it's still injected you haven't even seen vacuum lines yet. That 300z is so well laid out by the Japs and performed so well. A turbo was a joy to drive.

@@hippie-io7225 I love the design of the Z32 generation of 300ZX. It has a lot of linearity, but then you see it at just the right angles and you realize how mysteriously and unexpectedly curvaceous the body is. Plus, the interior is pretty neat with the steering pod design where all of the driver controls are at your fingertips. Unfortunately, keeping all of those functional is a real challenge when you go ripping out the stock ECU, since the body control module communicates with it.

I once replaced the entire ECU harness on my '92 Twin Turbo (even more packed into the engine bay than the NA) with the '95 NA harness (modified back for the bits to support the TT). All done with the engine in place. This was so I could run the pintless 555CC injectors. Now that was a fun project.

I started converting a 2+2 300 about 5yrs ago and just sold the project a year ago. Ran out of motivation and time with kids. I have lots of component weights and a crude but pretty useful 3D model of the vehicle for rough spacing of things. Happy to share if you’d like anything….the Gen2 ibooster fits really well in the stock location with a remote fluid tank. I actually modified the rear subframe to hold a Leaf motor. I actually think a Tesla motor would fit well behind the rear axle and hanging in the fuel tank area. I think this requires the motor to run in reverse thou which i think someone makes a mod to let that work with oil cooling. React out if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing this through!

Good on you for properly removing the R12. Just as a note though, some of the time, I live in the Philippines. The developing world, 7 billion people, they could care less about the environment .... the number of black spewing diesels just here in the Philippines would amaze most westerners but that's multiplied many times over because the rest of the developing world has the same thing. Only 1 billion people live in the developed world. The rivers in the Philippines, because millions still live in bamboo shacks along the river, the river water is green (looks like antifreeze). They think it is normal. They are shocked beyond belief when I tell them most rivers in the US, in spots that have just 5 feet of water, I can see the bottom. I tell them that the US shipped their environmental waste along with the carbon footprint to China.... for the last 40 years. :)

@valkabo You're not either if you're watching and not seeing he has little experience in the automotive trade. Relax, it's not an attack on him it's an obvious observation. I'll give you another hint. He has no tools and doesn't know what they are called sometimes. It's okay to not be a car guy and have projects with cars. You're watching car videos and are not a car guy, and that's perfectly okay 👌. These comments help, too. The more non car guys commenting push the algorithm to share the content so more armchair KZread warriors can be rounded up to grow the channel. That way, we can get back to the Porsche, which is the technical build that is most interesting to the actual car guy's, in my opinion.
