No shade at Arwen, I rly don't mind her character.. but in the films at least, there's really no reason to why she and Aragorn are together, it's just kinda like "hey your dad raised me, we grew up together and I think you're beautiful and you think i'm attractive = love". There may be more to it in the books, but the way Legolas' and Aragorn's bond grows throughout the films/books you'd think they're far more suited for one another, like just kiss after the battle lol. Maybe if LOTR was written in modern day that would've been possible, but it is a child of its time I suppose. I still love to ship it though!!

I mean even if it was written in the modern day if it was still set to mirror somewhat Middle Ages Europe, royals kind of have to marry and produce heirs. I think the movies actually emphasized the Aralas friendship more than the books and ofc, any popular media with two attractive men in a close friendship seems to create a slash fandom in the modern day :D It's great, although sometimes I wish we could also emphasize close male friendships more without it immediately being coded romantic.

In the book the sam/frodo relationship is more tendencious actually, or more specifically the feelings of Sam for frodo... But in the movies I think the biggest tendencious gay love feelings is the bilbo/thorin relationship
