I got my 4s screen replaced (design flaw software started going wonky not answering calls ) and quoted this when 4 years old .. replaced screen to new straight away. Felt like new phone. Only works on design flaws so if you drop it or take it to the bath with you you’d not get replacement and would need the Apple care.

This conformation really helped me. I was debating whether or not to bring in my MacBook Pro late 2016 for speaker repair, both speakers blew a few months ago and I’ve used external headphones etc for sound; I didn’t bring it in for 2 reasons, 1: it’s an extension of my arm and 2: I’m out of warranty and I can only imagine how much that would cost. Not to mention the butterfly keyboard issue. All of these issues would make you think I’d never buy another but it’s just so good, that’s the allure.

Always been fairly pleased with apple. I had a MacBook Pro 2017 and the Touch Bar had some weird lamination defect, apple replaced without any fuss. also, back in the days of the iPhone 6, apple replaced that outside of warranty too. Good to know about these rights though. I would probably still get AppleCare for more expensive products for the accidental damage cover though.

In UK we have had consumer rights law for a long time. The video is slightly misleading / confusing. Outside the manufacturer period of 1 or 2 years, you have to prove any faults are due to the manufacturer and you have up to 6 year's from.time of purchase. If you are offered a refund, the seller can deduct a reasonable amount for the time you have used the product. Also in the UK if you pay for something on a credit card costing £100 - 30k the card company is jointly liable to cover you for faulty / unsatisfactory goods and you can take up a claim directly with them.

A few things missing in this video. The Consumer Rights Act says that consumers must receive products that are 1. Fit for purpose 2. As described, or as seen in a sample 3. Of satisfactory quality Item 2 also apply to digital goods. In this case, claiming for Apple products usually comes under "satisfactory quality" and without defect. Within 30 days, you can ask for a full refund. This is the right to reject. Beyond that, the seller can offer a repair or replacement before you can ask for a partial refund. This is the final right to reject. If this final rejection is within 6 months, the seller cannot deduct anything from your refund for use of the product, i.e. you can claim a full refund. There is no mention of a 6 year cap in the law, but a contract between the consumer and the seller can lay out the limits on claims provided that it is not unfair.

This may be different in the UK but as far as I know you can’t request a refund unless it’s from the place of purchase so for example, you can’t go to Apple and ask for a refund under Consumer Law if you bought it from third party electronics store. You’d have to go to the store you purchased it from in order to claim a refund. Repairs or replacements are done at Apple if needed though and they may not exclusively mention Consumer Law but they wouldn’t charge you unnecessarily otherwise they could get sued if they breach the Consumer Law Rights, as would any company selling goods.

I had an issue with an iPhone in US several months ago and while Apple kept running remote diagnostics and capturing data at the end they just kept telling me that they did not know what was going on and then gave me a silent treatment. Meanwhile the phone kept burning through mobile data like there was no tomorrow. Phone was under warranty when I reported the issue too. So consumers in US are much more screwed as they are at the good graces of Apple. I had to stop using the phone as I didn't know (and neither did Apple after over months of diagnostics) what was causing mobile data leaks. I felt like I was being suckered by sending gigs of data using cellular while I was still connected to WiFi. Bizarre and inexcusable.

For the fellow danish audiance, “consumer law” is the english word for “reklamationsret” and is also 2 years. Not sure if it was mentioned but apple world wide warranty and apple care is covering your product in the whole world as long as there is an Apple store or a Premium reseller / service provider. Where the consumer law can only be used in the country it was purchased, so don’t go buying all your items in UK if you don’t live nearby hoping for a 6 year warranty, unless you wanna travel back to UK for the repair. At least that is my experience

A lot depends on how friendly your Apple Store is. I’ve gotten several free repairs when I shouldn’t just because they were being nice. For instance, my wife dropped a 6-month old iPhone in the toilet, and we told them that. They replaced it anyway even though they had no obligation to do so. I took in an iMac for warranty repair on a bad drive but asked for them to fix my cracked screen. They told me it would be $75 to fix the screen, but when I came to pick it up, they told me they decided to fix it for free. Sometimes you just get lucky.

They still have to respect the law for you to benefit from it lol. In my country, its 2 years as well but as soon as you claim your consumer rights, they will smile, take your item for "repair", wait 30 days (the maximum allowed by law for repairs) and return it to you with obvious water damage, claiming you did it. Happened to my sister with her phone from a major service provider. Now your only option is to take it to court, which costs money/time/mental health and most people just won't bother. So there is that. Better be polite when claiming your rights, because it may backfire in your face even in "normal" countries like the UK. And even then, it may not work out.... People are pigs. Actually, that is offensive to the poor pigs. These laws need to be tightened even further.

As an ex 🍎 employee. This is true. This is indeed only relevant if you bought your product directly from Apple. Consumer law only applies to the retailer you consumed from. Also, doesn’t count when you damaged your own machine ofc. We would actually inform customers of this right upon purchase but people basically forget 80% of the conversation lol. Basically no other retailer than the 🍎 store complied tho, resulting in a lot of people disappointed anyway. So buying directly at Apple might be a good idea anyways.

FYI another thing about Consumer Law in the UK is that according to the ACT, the Consumer has to claim in the first 6 months to actually get the full 6 year coverage. If the Consumer claims the fault after 6 months, it's up to them to prove the device came with the fault. Some sellers such as Apple and John Lewis extend this to 2 years for you to claim a fault. Just put this out there, so people don't get shown the door.

I have an old MacBook Pro from early 2015. It has a problem with the battery; it says battery Service is recommended, and the 13inch 2015 Macbook is not yet vintage. I use Mac Big Sur macOS 11.6.8. The first MacBook Pro 13 came back in March 2016. I got my main second Mac mini (M1, 2020) last Dec 2021. Today, I will be contact Apple support for this problem, I had it seven years , I hope it fix or replace and I will be use my customer rights law.
