Lol!! He bought it brand new, fully imported from Japan (he paid 32,000 Australian dollars for it back then!)... I live in Melbourne, Australia! In fact it is an Automatic 2.2i. I have never had a problem with it in 32 years and after 310,000 miles !!!!!!!!! ... still drives like a dream, like new! Its unreal ... and l absolutely will NEVER part with this car, for both sentimental reasons and my absolute love for this car. I have religiously taken it to get it serviced (oil change and general maintenance) every 6 months (absolutely without fail!) over the course of its current 32 years. Every mechanic tells me my car is never going to die ... it is in incredible condition. None of them can believe it. I recently purchased a new 2022 Mazda 3 sedan. I had to wait 8 months for it to arrive here in Melbourne, from Japan .... and am also absolutely thrilled to own the Mazda 3 too. It is a stunning car!!! I'm a Toyota fan, but I have to say I'm honestly pretty impressed with the build quality of modern Mazdas. They're good value for the fit and finish, as well as the material costs. It seems like after their partnership with Toyota they really improved a lot of their production and methods. The CX-5s and Mazda 3s/6s seem to be made very well and have held up decently from the consensus of most owners.

I love my AWD CX-5 I just leased 5 months ago. Just pissed that because of the stupid Teslas hogging the chips and being partially responsible for causing the chip shortage, I lost two standard features I really wanted: 1). @@jonwoodworker Correlation versus causation, I am simply saying that in recent years, especially the last 3-5 years Mazda has really stepped up their quality, even if it was before their partnership with Toyota. But even then, it was a wise partnership to share technology with the two companies, Toyota is still one of the largest manufacturers in the world so it still benefits Mazda to share their production line with them. There's no need to get in a frenzy about it.
I have a 2019 Mazda 6 that I bought couple of months ago for ~23K with only 21K miles on it. But mine has a lot more options than this one (Heated leather seats, sunroof, adaptive cruise control, etc...) I think it's the best car I've ever owned. The interior is just so luxurious like out of an Audi interior. I like how Mazda has its own customer base like myself and it's not trying to go for the masses like Toyota and Honda.

Mazda makes great vehicles. I have previously owned a 2005 Mazda 3 and a 2014 Mazda 6. I currently own a 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature Model. All 3 of these vehicles were purchased brand new, and had/have no problems whatsoever. All I have ever had to do with any of the Mazdas that I have owned is routine maintenance. My brother owned a Mazda RX-7 back in the 80s, and he never had any problems with it either. I will always be a huge Mazda fan. 👍👍
We've owned 2 Mazda6's. Great cars. Ours was automatic, I can drive standard, but wife preferred automatic. We drove cross country, and in all types of weather, and urban driving. Comfortable and stylish. We do have a sun roof. Why do we not have one now? Life changes, needed a bigger car, an SUV. Yes, we have a Mazda CX9.

Had to get rid of it due to 1k annual repair bills, but still my favourite car. I got teh toyta for the xtended warranty and hopefully reliability, but if I could have afforded to gamble, would have taken another mazda hands down. Very comfortable to drive, brillaint handling, enough power to be safe whatever the manouvre, and great cabin quality. I have a newer toyata that has much less soundproofing, and is less comfortable, and a lot less fun to drive..... man, I miss my mazda.
My sister bought a new mazda 5 in 2011 and that car has been amazing. Literally one repair made since new. Its her workhorse car and goes everywhere in it to various jobs. Amazing car. High mileage too
Just bought a 2019 mazda3 a few months ago for around that 20k mark and with the horsepower, gas mileage, all of the technology and the way it drives it felt like the best deal on the market. Had a 2016 Mazda6 MT, LOVED that car. Made me love Mazda. Sold it when I moved but got my wife a CX-5 for her new car recently. Highly recommend it.

I owne a 2014 Mazda 6 Turing 6 speed manual now has 65k miles and drives like New absolutely love it Highly recommend this car to anybody who is in the market for a manual transmission
My 2013 Mazda 3 has 185k on it. I have only had it for about 3 years, but after putting around 50k of my own miles on it, I'm pretty impressed with the lack of maintenance. Aside from typical oil changes, I did have to get the shocks changed out. But it runs incredible with 0 issues. And having the Skyactiv engine, I get 40+ mpg hwy and average 36 combined. This is my 2nd Mazda, and my next car will be my 3rd.
Recently bought a 2018 cx 5 GT and couldn't be happier! Does pretty well up here in chilly manitoba!
I have never seen a mazda ever let someone down. Owned 6 between me and a friend (we liked miatas since high school way back when they were actually cheap) and even the cars we absolutely dogged on ran just fine. Saw a mazda run and DRIVE on just 2 cylinders when there was a misfire, we limped the car to the shop and left it there for repairs without a tow.
We have a Mazda 6 03 6 cylinder sport. The car has over 200k and sometimes I see several on the roads where we live. We love this car the car has so much up and go Zoom zoom. Thank you for making a great car.
I live and work in Japan. Due to my work and lifestyle, owning a car in downtown Tokyo was not feasible for me because of the lack of space. As a result, I ended up renting a car every weekend. Fast forward five years later, I had tried almost every Japanese car in the compact and subcompact category. While all Japanese cars are great and reliable, there's something special about Mazdas. Even the budget models ride and feel premium, and they excel in the cost-to-quality ratio. When the time came to finally own a car, it was a no-brainer to choose a Mazda.
I remember driving the Mazda 626 which was before the 6 series. Excellent as well.

I'm on my 3rd mazda3: New '05 3i, 289k miles, son wrecked it and insurance totaled it. Used '09 3s GT, 266k miles, wife wrecked it and insurance totaled it. Used '15 3i GT, 81k miles, still going strong (not wrecked yet, fingers crossed). All manual transmission since I don't know how to drive an automatic trans! I like the smaller size of the 3 so I've never even looked at a 6. Will be getting my wife a CX5 this year. I think that says it all regarding my opinion of Mazda.
My daily driver is a 2014 Mazda 6 (124k miles at this point). I have the automatic transmission and the best mileage I got (with the AC running) was 38 mpg. Now that my daily commute is all freeway, I'm probably hitting 75-80 mph more often than not. Even so, at that speed my mileage is still respectable at 28-30 mpg. This is my 3rd Mazda (1979 RX-7/180k miles, 2005 Mazda 3/190k miles, and now the 6). Roughly 500k miles all told and zero forced maintenance with the exception of an A/C compressor on the 3). I had a manual 2016 6 and got rid of it partially because it had some problems early on that should never occur on a car that young and with as few miles. It never left me stranded, but here are some of the problems. It was a very good looking car that was excellent particularly on the highway, but it was just okay overall. I had an '05 3 Touring hatchback 5 spd and, unlike the 6, it was my favorite car ever. It never had any problems and felt faster than the numbers showed. The shifter was also better than the one in the 6 due to the linkages being lined with Kevlar. I still miss that car. Brand loyalty is a fool's errand. I just bought a 2014 Silver Mazda 6 with only 79,000 miles on it. Runs great and pretty peppy with the 2.5 184hp 4. I'm getting about 38mpg on the highway at 70mph.
I purchased my first car in 1984 at 18 1980 Corolla when was in the service . It was a standard. I learned by watching the older kids in my neighborhood driving their stick shift vehicles.
What I've heard about the Mazda 6 is that they can be really good cars if you get the good engines and transmissions. They had multiple engine and transmission options and you had to know which ones were good and which ones to avoid.

Yeah, I had a ‘21 Mazda6 Signature Turbo for a year and a half, and while there was a lot to like about it, the wind noise at highway speeds was pretty bad. Also, my door panels rattled and buzzed a lot from the Bose sub in the trunk and the speakers, and the infotainment system and backup camera were really poor quality. @@joebruhin2098 I may have had a 6 with bad insulation around the doors and windows because the wind noise in mine was pretty pronounced and distracting. I kept checking to see if the driver's side window was cracked open when I first got the car because it was so annoying. I noticed the doors didn't sound solid when I shut them either, so maybe the insulation in them was poorly installed. Oh well, it doesn't matter anymore because now I have the CX-5 Signature.
2012 Mazda 6, 2019 CX-5 and 2021 Mazda 3. Never had a lick of issues with any of them. Just regular routine maintenance and they last forever it seems. I see friends and family buy new Toyotas and Hondas and have issues, meanwhile my Mazdas keep rolling and thus I will continue to keep buying. Very underrated brand, hard to upsell them to people I know. They just go for the default Honda or Toyotas lol. The only real complain I have for Mazda is the paint quality. Fit For A King? HELL YEAH BROTHER 🤘🏻 Also, my father had a 2017 Mazda 6, loved it so much he got a newer 2020 right off the showroom floor and the improvement with the ride comfort, quieter interior, touching up of the front and rear and extra standard features more than justified the new purchase. I talked to someone just the other day with the same 6 and he said “dude I thought I was crazy because it was the same gen, but now I can rest better at night!” I also LOVE the Sport mode for merging because it holds the passing gear JUST right, really taking the anxiety out of the whole ordeal. My only minor complaint is the visibility out the back isn’t what I’d like it to be but it’s not a dealbreaker as you get standard back up camera and rear cross traffic alert. But I love his car, it’s much more fun to drive over my 04 Accord and I might get one over the new Camrys I’ve been looking at.

Agree totally on the manual trans. I have taught both my daughters on them and started on my then 14 yr. old granddaughter with my 2015 Mazda 3 Grand Touring. When she turned 16, I gave her the car for her birthday (only 12K miles on it). To my surprise, she took her drivers test in this car and passed on her first attempt.
