Seriously, I could hug you. I love my china markers, but hate the whole peeling/breaking thing. This is a game changer. Can't wait to try it! Love art tips!

OK, this is a GREAT idea. I looove the markers for gesture drawing, and love that you dont’ need anything sharp to peel them… but then its super annoying that the string sometimes will get in the way so you end up having to reach for something sharp to trim the sting. this sidesteps the problem entirely!

Awesome Idea! I found your video trying to find an idea on easiest way to peel the china marker.i use for tile work and spend more time trying to cut paper or peel paper than it takes to draw a line

I found an old one of those from the 30's in a desk, and it had little circles on the paper to show you how far to rip.

Good tip, but it's important to buy the cheap brand, TwistUp. I purchased a pack of Twistables by Crayola and they don't work because the crayon is fatter than the china marker.

What brand China markers do you put in? I tried my brand is thinner than the Sargeant leads so I am not sure it will work.

You should have mentioned what brand twist ups to buy. Had to rewind the youtube to 2:08 to see it was Sargeant brand you bought for twist ups. I really like the Sargeant brand twist ups for sketching so I haven't removed the crayons out of their twist up thing. I have to say the Sargeant brand crayon inside is thicker than the China marker brand I bought (forgot brand) so not sure the china marker might be too thin. Also, after checking, some brands of China markers are thinner than my brand which was a little more pricey. I liked the fact that my brand had a multi color pack. In short, it would be good to know the diameter of your china marker leads and what twist ups are compatible with them. Will update to tell you my China marker brand and if they did fit in the Sargeant twistable.

fantastic idea. i have always hated they way they would peel, mostly in an uneven manor. I got used to just shaving them down with a knife to expose the tip. the twist shells look much bettter

FYI: The correct term for the medium inside a pencil is “Strip”, not “Lead”. In a common pencil, it consists or a mixture of graphite and clay. Perhaps china markers should be more accurately referred to as crayons, which use chalk, wax, or grease as a medium. For instance, litho crayons, used for drawing on lithographic plates, would be comparable to a china marker. Hope this helps.

Brilliant. The book making store carries China Markers in all sorts of colors but "sharpening" was always a disaster.
