Sawdah bint Zam’ah (ra) | Builders of a Nation Ep. 3 | Dr Haifaa Younis | Jannah Institute |
Let’s learn about our mother Sawdah bint Zam’ah today.
Did you know that our mother Sawdah:
- Was a single mother before she married the Prophet ﷺ?
- Was one of the first women who accepted Islam?
- Was the first wife of the Prophet ﷺ after mother Khadijah passed away?
- Was in a monogamous marriage with the Prophet ﷺ for two years?
- Saw in a dream that she would marry our beloved Prophet ﷺ?
- Was famous for being so content with what she had, and never compared herself with other wives of the Prophet ﷺ?
She accepted the Prophet when he ﷺ was on his own, without a wife, and with four children to take care of. She was the one who would always sacrifice herself to help other people and make them happy.
Join us in Day 3 of Builders of a Nation to learn more about our mother Sawdah bint Zam’ah.

“I have never wished that I was like any other woman except for Hazrat Saudahra. I would like to have her simple and unpretentious ways and I wish I could be like her and that I could have a heart as pure and clean as hers and her simple ways.” (Hazrat Aisha(r.a)

Mashallah subhanallah subhanallah ❤
To me she's more beautiful than today's miss worlds or miss universes. Dark skin isn't ugly, tall built isn't ugly. The fact that she was confident in her appearance gives inspiration to me. Confidence and contentment are the keys. Allah SWT made us beautiful in unique ways.

Dark skin is beautiful. All skin colors are beautiful in their own ways. In some cultures being tall and heavy built is actually seen more beautiful than the opposite, even for women. Every society/ culture has its own ways of defining beauty.

I don't think it was her dark skin that made her not beautiful but more like her face or body shape. Allahu 3arlem

I Didn't see dark skin as in her color but more like uneven skin tone

@alhamdouwachoukroulilah6333 Her dark skin was more than likely was a factor that made her deemed ugly in Arab society before Islam because that's constantly mentioned when it comes to that society, even to the point of lack of respect for dark complexioned fellow Arabs. So, by society's "beauty" standards she was deemed ugly unfortunately and her complexion did factor into the understanding of whether she was beautiful.
Dark skin is beautiful and unique. The fact that she had all the uniqueness is what’s fascinating.
Masha’Allah. My daughter is named after this mother of the believer Sawdah (ra)
This is so stunningly true. In this life, there will always be someone better, richer, prettier etc. If you keep comparing, you will never be content or happy. She was a wise wise lady, MasyaAllah.
Allahu Akbar Jazakumullah kheir May Allah bless you and grant you jannatul Firdousy

JazakAllah Khair Dr.Haifa, Wallahi, Allah swt does not make any imperfections. Allah swt gave us in abundance. The only time we feel insecure is when we see and judge ourself through the blessings given to others. So if we want to reclaim our value in ourselves we must guard our heart from envy or concern of others. Thank you so much 💓 may Allah swt enumerate your good deeds and illuminate your imaan in this world and in ahira ameen. May you be in the company of the sahaba ra in ahira.
Very motivating lecture

Was the fact that she was tall and heavy built and dark skin , make her "not very beautiful"? I am confused about this message.

In Arabian times even now in this society being of dark skin is like a turnoff by societal standards that’s what she meant ( may Allah forgive us all)

Maybe she was just not matching with the "beauty standards" at that time and place
