Often, I think to myself; "How is this possible? I would never be in that position", but I have to be fair and realize that I will quit a campaign when I notice that it's going that way.

Yes Bretonnia has no supply line mechanic. Starting gameplay is usually near-empty army and 5 lords, during the 20 turns of orc invasion to farm the levels. (they reinforce each other)

@@12345Granada Because they don't have this mechanic, there is a somewhat well known exploit (that was nerfed but not completely removed, it's still viable.) where you recruit a fuckload of lords onto Marienburg and pour all your skill points into buffing income, which negates your lord cost completely, and will gain you even more money, till eventually you have about 50 odd lords in Marienburg making you insane amounts of money.

It's a nice easter egg, they are supposed to be crazy assholes like that as in their lore.

Captain: General, we only have 10 peasant archers, 3 knights, and 1 lvl 12 hero meant for sniping enemy lords. Our enemy outnumber us, they have over 3000 troops. Legend: Don't worry about it. (cheesing intensifies)

18:20 shift click is your friend. just cue up 100 orders when dodging those missiles.

i submited the campaign. And i have to admit that it took me long hours to beat the high elves myself. If you have questions i would be glad to answer them.

@@ThePipeRow Alliances *NEVER* work out in Total War games. If a faction asks you for an alliance, they're just asking if you're dumb enough to fight their stronger rivals for them when they immediately declare war the next turn.

I've found with the introduction of the vampire coast DLC, they really annihilate everyone else around them and as the fey enchantress you have one of the worst starting points in the game. 1)At war with the Wood Elves 2) Count Noctilus always comes up from the south 3)Skavenblight is right there who can and will use the underway to constantly try and steal cities while being very hard to eliminate their base All the while they expect you to hold out with peasants and slightly better cavalry. PEASANTS!!

I always use Fay Enchantress when I am playing Bretonnia campain. You are not in war with wood elves, you start with a non-agression pact with them, and normally I use this advantage to build defensive ally with all WE factions. With vampire coast, I find myself coundn't expand south, but it also cuts my concerns about the skavens. Whatever you do, Bretonnia seems to end up in a pretty dire situation like this one. His repell against HE is really amazing though, never used such tactics.

Fay Enchantress is the best lord for Bretonnia though: More peasants to work with, more replenishment, and cheap upkeep Grail Knights, and on top of it shes a caster. Alberic just sucks, and Louen is ok.

GW never gave Bretonnia much love on the tabletop. I get that the weak infantry is a tradeoff for their powerful cavalry, but the problem is it's TOO weak to even hold the line properly without a grail reliquae.

I think Fey Enchantress is easiest Bret start just because of her extra peasants she can easily defend with a small army and lord while you use her stack to take territory and lightning strike double stacks.

These videos have helped me out so much in all of my campaigns with all the different tricks you show to bring campaigns back from the brink I have learned to more effectively plan and strategize all of my more recent campaigns on higher difficulties like hard and very hard. Basically, you taught me how to "git gud." Thanks for putting so much time into these videos.

If you wanna find out whether an enemy unit has or hasn't got shields, you can see it by hovering over that unit. If there is a shield icon next to the armour bar, then the unit has got shields. A Bronze shield means that the unit's shields are not that good, silver means fairly good and gold means excellent.

Putting the horse archers out is fine, but they can still run down routing units :) I usually rather go for very low HP units, as a rout can trigger a chain reaction anyways (and this can save them on the campaign map too) and they will rout when they get into melee range. Edit: I'm stupid, I forgot you turned off "control large armies". So you want new units onto the field ^^

I'm a pleb. I always play normal difficulty, too much bullshit with work and school best way to unwind is to act as god on the battlefield. Love your content though. Cheers.

Yeah I feel the same way when the game's idea of difficulty is just pure stat nerfs for you and buffs for the enemy. Same reason why Bethesda RPGs have shit difficulty as well since all it does is change damage modifiers, not exactly a fun experience imo.

@@kill4monney213 Most of playing in higher difficulties is cheesing and stacking the absolute best unit in the game into a deathball with every buff imaginable. I prefer diverse armies with varying strengths and weaknesses, that isn't possible in higher difficulties without you getting steamrolled.

Brocard Beringer got a damn neck workout from all the nodding he was doing.

What a god, nearly double your troops with tons of infantry and tyrion but you still managed to win, I hope i can play like this someday too instead of relying on superior numbers and auto resolve

I like the idea of the Fey Enchantress giving a war speech to her peasant mobs about how she fucked up and they now have to defend against dragon-riding high elves, blood sucking vampires, starving orcs, booty-plundering pirates, masochistic icemen, and probably their blood relatives from the other lands.

Very impressive and educational. Thanks for the good stuff

no mods, bretonnia simply doesn't have to pay for extra armies, that's the reason alberic used to get the job of harbourmaster in marienburg and why they changed his yield of the sea ability from extra 150% from ports local to a faction wide minor port bonus. They were also the faction that benefited a lot from sea treasures before those got armies attached to them since you could just have a 300 upkeep lord sail the world for those. I get that their armies are shit till late game cav spams but they are some of the cheapest if you start going for resource settlements, especially wood, iron and pastures that reduce the upkeep for troops that don't have a way of getting an increase in upkeep. Nice save anyway, only thing i'd try to do differently (if i managed to do it as good as you) is let the high elves archers shoot eachother while wasting ammo. Liked the vid man, probably shouldn't have watched the entire thing in one go tbh ! :D

you can still send a lord around to get sea treasure & farm levels and just pick the miserly horde and the sea treasures many only make half as much as they used too. Plus if you ever get cornered by pirates you just disband him.

Yeah, there's WAY too many vampires in the game nowadays. Probably for the best Bretonnia is getting the next update.

It most be awfull that a faction that seems to be the perfect one for you its so underwellming

50:11 How did Norsca manage to occupy these settlements (Grung Zint, Gorssel)? I thought they could only occupy capitols and coastal cities .

In war, there is no cheese.

At about 31min just because I think some people miss/forget about this. Sisters of Averlorn actually slow units that they are shooting. I think a couple of the other powerful bow units do this as I have seen something similar with Ubshabti and I think the Waywatchers.

Could you provide us with the save file of these campaigns?

Can confirm that Bretonia doesn't need to deal with supply lines in vanilla. That is the reason I love them so much. You can spam stacks of shitty troops without completely screwing yourself.

You need trebuchets and at least archers in legendary though. And you don’t normally have the luxury of an income that can sustain more than 2-3 decent stacks until mid game when you’ve confederated all of bretonnia. Of course once that’s been achieved you can spam armies of knights errant to dogpile other armies 3:1, but actually getting there is the hard part

Probably 90% of cheese would be cured if the AI would stop relying on missiles if they lost balance of power for over 2-3 minutes in missile fights. Or if their missile troops would take stock of the damage they deal. Like, do less than 10% hp in one minute -> look for other target.

Alternatively, nerf dodge chance when moving erratically/buff accuracy on single units after 4-5 volleys. That'd rarely come up in normal gameplay, but when moving a single unit erratically (the cheese) it'd fix it.

I rarely upgrade the tier one units on red tree on lords. Even on harder difficulties I save points for higher tier units, otherwise it's too wasteful and you cannot respec :( Except dwarves. Their basic infantry is tier 4 compared to any other factions so no reason not too.

You would be amazed at the quantity of kills the peasant bowmen can get, once given proper protection and ammunition. Only second to knights in kills per battle. And they cost nothing.

Quick question, why don't you set control groups to use for hotkeys during battles?

I think it's a force of habit inherited from Rome 1 and maybe Medieval 2. I at least have often experienced grouping cavalry together making them do very weird things in terms of pathfinding. And since cav is what you focus on in Rome 1, there's not much point in grouping the rest of your army. Don't know if that problem persists in these newer games.

Well, whenever I use control groups I usually have my heros in group 1, infantry in 2, ranged in 3, cav in 4, special units in 5 and artillery in 6. If I'm missing a group then I squish the number down to save on some travel distance. If not, I at least have units with spells I want to cast in their own control group so I can double click their number to jump to them and already have the mouse over the spell select area. Heck, even just using the control groups to jump to those specific units instead of scrolling over is worth it. Even if you don't use the control groups for movement and attack commands it makes it faster to give them hold fire commands and stuff. At any rate, love the content. It just like watching a hunt and peck typist at times though not seeing you use any hotkeys.

Settlement was besieged so the settlement garrison attempted to initiate combat with the force march armies acting as reinforcements.

No it effects their melee attack. Its just super week and ill advised to allow them to get into melee, but sometimes you can't help it

Bretonnia is aight if you play with SFO, vanilla version is just weak. Only thing they got going for them is late game cav, which a lot of factions already get. Edit: Yeah, Bretonnia doesn't have the increasing upkeep penalty from armies. So that's something else they got too I guess.

I have always liked Bretonnia because of their lore and style but I do agree these guys are one of the weakest factions in the game. Their specialty, late game mounted units are incredibly easy to counter and the flyers are way to few in number with wrongly scaled stats to be very good. The only way Bretonnia is good is when Cylostra summons them.

Is confederating ever a wise decision? Some might want a specific lord for fun (before the AI messes it up), or just be big fast. But it's just extra territory and you lose an ally. You can take other territory instead and keep the ally. Maybe if Bretonnia doesn't have the supply lines (peasant economy instead) it's less bad for them?

what i like about brettonia is they are just medieval humans with religion (actually works this time) and they just try to survive :)

Doesn anyone else see screen tearing constantly?

The old world always defaults eventually to fighting dwarves in legendary difficulty. The new world defaults to fighting lizards or high elves which ever you brushed aside will be your eternal thorn. 100 turns Fighting dwarves swarming you like skaven isn't fun at all but that's pretty much legendary difficulty becomes on old world. Only thing that made me believe legendary difficulty was Easy all this years is playing darkelves/highelves which by the time they have to deal with the dawi they are rank 1 in strength. Butt old world factions are really screwed by the dawi. Empire becoming huge and hitting rank 1 isn't something to be alarmed about because state troops aren't that good but dwarves becoming top 5 should make you butt clench.

yeah it got adjusted back on tomb kings patch so alberic doesn't make crazy amounts of dough like he used to.

I played as an empire on campaign and used similar tactics of wasting ammo of archers and artillery with empire captain or any single flying unit as you used in sydc. But I used one different in siege. I bombard siege tower of only one side keeping entire army to that extreme side so that entire army is out of range of towers and only one or two towers needed to be destroyed, attack gate with priest or single unit and afterwards just park gun units in front of opened gate and shoot whatever in front of them. This way its like target practice to gunmen unit, straightforward shooting to their front without any resistance. ai usually never sends units outside broken gate but if single unit comes out I simply shoot with other gunman unit or cavalry parked just behind it. I won many siege battles without loosing single unit of my army.

there is only one way to save a fey enchantress campaign: start over with another lord.

unpopular opinion: Bretonnia is one of the best factions. They have amazing units (grail units, pegasus/hippogryph knights), amazing artillery, decent cheap infantry, best cav. Their LLS ar kick ass: fay enchantress is the best healer, alberic has sick economic factionwide perks, King Louen is easily the best melee LL. Great position (lots of ports), great economy (no additional cost for extra armies (which is HUGE on legendary), peasant economy is great and their economic techs are second only to dwarfs. They have the largest pool of factions to confederate with (like 5 initially, plus 2-3 in Africa/Southlands) AND confederation has positive effects, not negative. I mean, there is no losing with these guys :)

I find empire worse. Economy since you can't get all those treasures from the map as easily as Bretonnia . Cavalry very far from being as good as grail knights. Infantry is better, but actually too pricy. Bretonnia infantry is not the best but costs nothing. And used as meat shield for cavalry flanking, is a role they are good at :)

The reason he has so many enemy's is because the fey enchantress can't keep her legs closed and some say even Slannesh is concerned

I love your vids, but I can't help feeling there are so many of them I cannot watch all due to time constraints. Since they are typically of a very similar type, I think the bulk of your audience feels... saturated in the same way. I know how it sounds, but I think that if you plan to put as much time into all these streams/videos as you do, you may find yourself better off if you devote 10-20% of your time on some other game to bring SYDC-unsaturated audience, thus increasing your views/donations. You keep thinking outside the box, so I think any deep enough strategy game would allow you to generate some good gameplay. As I said, I love your vids, I am just wondering whether they generate as much cash as they could given the amount of time you spend.
