SAVING KING COBRAS IN BALI! (An Original Short Film)

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The king cobra is the most revered and feared snake in Bali, Indonesia and for good reason. There is no antivenom on the island and one bite from these cobras could kill 20 people! In this video I head out with the Bali Reptile Rescue and ‪@WickensWickedReptiles‬ to help save these reptiles from the people who may kill them on sight. This is a Reptile Adventure you don't want to miss!

    FYI Dav; when Jack Fruit is off the tree it’s known as “Jack Fruit in space” (as it falls), and then “Jack Fruit on the ground.” Then as it decomposes it’s called “Jack fruit that’s gone off” all are very technical names.

    It’s the bits of trivia and humorous inferences that make Dav’s channel so great. No other herpticulture KZreadr has mentioned that the cobra utilizes the heat generated by the decomposing vegetation in it’s nest to help incubate it’s eggs. Fun fact; decomposing organic matter can also cause an eerie bio-luminescent “cold” light when ambient air temp and other external conditions are right. I’ve seen this strange phosphorescence (known as “Will o’ The Wisp”) while on herping expeditions in NJ’s Pine Barrens. Btw; that area is a treasure-trove for herpers and naturalists alike! Also, the large-leafed foliage Dav chooses to accessorize with is in the family of “Elephant Ears.” The name has in no way influenced Dav’s choice of this plant for said garment... lol _”Embrace your strange and rattle on” words to live by._

    Hi Dav What an advernture. How awesome to see your first wild cobra on a nest of eggs. 31 eggs. To catch her, and relocate her to a safe place. And Bali Cobra rescue will incubate her eggs. And release them. Then another female, to take worms out of her mouth, and set her free. A rat snake, and a spitting cobra. You and Adam will never forget your trip to Bali. ❤🐍Cindy

    @ wow thanks for replying and I do think I need to put some context on this. I didn’t just go and pick up a random snake! There were conservationists on Bird Island and someone shouted does anyone want to see a snake? I ran over to them and they were saying about how endangered the snake was, I (of course) asked if I could hold her. I did get some strange looks but when I said I had kingsnakes at home they handed her to me. She was gorgeous, I was so in my element and didn’t want give her back!

    This is animal documentray on another level. You guys did a really good job on this one 🤘 PS: Speaking of Cobras, did you know that there's a type of Cobra in the Philippines that locals have known to do vocalizations in akin to geckos or even rooster calls? My grandmother used to tell me stories about how when rice fields were more dominant, they could hear a certain type of call every morning, and they believe it was a cobra. I mentioned this story to an ex-marine and he confirmed it to be a type of cobra. Interesting, or what?

  • @carltoncarnivores

    @carltoncarnivores

    Жыл бұрын

    King cobras have modified glottis structures to allow them to growl, but no other snake makes anything like the squeaking or barking noises that geckos make. What they were hearing is far more likely to actually be a gecko, or a frog, the latter extremely likely if it was common when rice paddies were around. And as much as they might learn about human culture or geography, I would not take ecological advice from a marine unless they were specifically the designated researcher for a unit.

  • Жыл бұрын

    Thank you! I did know that. Cool huh?

  • @MaliciousMollusc

    @MaliciousMollusc

    Жыл бұрын

    @Carlton Carnivores Well, we know it wasn't a specific gecko or frog because we know the common native species. For the more exotic ones, you'd have to go deep into the mountains. The ex-(Philippine)Marine holds weight because they regularly patrolled the entire area, jungles, and mountain ranges. They know which animals to look out for, which ones they can eat, etc. Same with plants.

    The funny thing is how easy it is for even the people to live in a place to overlook some very, very common animals, and how easy it is for what people think are remote, isolated species to suddenly show up in a foothill village etc. And what I said about the Marines holds; jack of all trades they must be, but full encyclopedic knowledge of an area's flora and fauna is rare. Plus, fact of: there are no records in scientific observations to back up the claim of a barking or squeaking or otherwise calling cobra, and as many expeditions have been mounted particularly recently to record the wildlife there, if it were something commonly heard at any time in the past we would have an article about it. Until someone can offer that...the growling of a king cobra is about it for snake vocals outside of hissing, especially since they don't have vocal cords.
