(Saved It!) How NOT To Make A Resin Chess Set ~ Full Tutorial With Tips And Warnings! ✨ Let’s Resin

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I’m doing a bit of magic today…or at least that’s how it feels when you make a full board game from scratch! This chess mold set from Let’s Resin makes it very easy (well, with some caveats…) to make your own stunning chess or checkers boards.
First, a quick note about epoxy resin safety. Even resins marked “Low-VOC” or resins that don’t have a strong smell are still POTENT CHEMICAL REACTIONS that make harmful vapors. Please stay well protected, it isn’t worth risking your health for a craft.
Find lots of safety info here: / 512042139188636
This resin stand mixer is AWESOME!! It had a nice grippy base so the cup didn’t spin around while the mixer was turning. It could be a total game-changer if you have large quantities of paint or resin to mix.
You can get 10% off the mixer with code ANNABLOUNT here! istoyo.com/?ref=AnnaBlount (affiliate link)
So here are all my tips for you, now that I’ve made it. Hopefully by following these you’ll get perfection on the first try!
1. For the chess pieces, make sure to squeeze out ALL the air bubbles from inside the heads of the pieces. Squeeze until the bubbles rise to the surface and pop, then GENTLY release to let it flow back down. Bubbles that aren’t squeezed out will make chips or holes in your pieces.
2. For the chessboard, make sure you add the white (or black, or whatever color) squares and let them set up BEFORE you try to fill the rest of the squares! Otherwise your resin will bleed and shift like mine did.
3. Pouring from a 1/2 full container with a spout is easier to control than a full cup.
4. Make sure your table is 100% level in ALL directions when filling the mold all the way! (You’ll need about 16 oz. for this part)
All of my materials except the gold glitter and the alcohol inks came from Let’s Resin. The colors I used were:
Blue chameleon powder
White
Dark Blue
Sky Blue
Light Yellow
Goldenrod

By leaving the full amount of mixed up resin in ONE cup, it heats up faster, therefore it cures faster. If you pour resin into cups, making it a smaller amount in each container, you might of been able to use it, depending on how long the first resin took you to use . I learned that the hard way too.😉✌It looks great btw!😁

You did a great job saving this, and this was a massive education for all of us! I have always loved the look of resin, and now I am seeing what a challenge it is to work with.

Thanks! Yes resin is weird. On the one hand it’s really straightforward, but there are a lot of things that can go wrong too. But I’m really happy with how it ended up!

thank you so much. this helps to see the don't dos. I have had the chest mold for a long time but never tried to do it. We always see videos that make it looks so easy, but rarely videos on what not to do. I have found that any metallic colors it over takes and spreads faster than regular ink colors or mica powders. You can't do a real swirl with them because they take over and break down the other colors.

One thing to make it easier. Pour the colored squares and let them set up, or mostly set and pour the white over the whole thing and you will have your white squares and frame❤

Safety first. Always stressed that to my fellow workers. Resin can create flammable fumes. Was a tab nervous for you when I seen the torch. Good job. Looks great.

Syringes work wonders instead of pipettes…. :) also, spray your chess pieces with 99.9% isopropyl alcohol before pouring your resin… you will get hardly any bubbles to zero bubbles…. Edit: one other thing…. When you demold your chess pieces, they will pop right out of you spray isopropyl alcohol in them…. 😊😊😊

Separate kings for checkers? Usually the king is on the flip side, not a separate piece. Informative video though as I'm looking to make a few chessboards.
