SAVED BY THE LIGHT, LIFE AS A FREIGHT PILOT
Flying as a freight pilot at night in the Cessna 210. This is about loosing all the lights in the cockpit one night while flying without a copilot or autopilot in a Cessna 210 single engine airplane.

Aircam. If your the only one moving the yoke and throttle, your a real pilot.
Recurrent training is inherent in most professions. Grab an instructor, review your PIC ops and flight & buy him a $100 burger. It'll make you a better pilot
Thank you for your memories!!! Wow!! We all those certain memories about flying.
Great story
Thanks for the great story!
I always had 2 flashlights plus a red lens flashlight ready for action. Night in the clouds with electrical failure is a very dark and dangerous place without a backup light. We also kept a chemical light stick with velcro ready over the instrument panel. Be prepared and trained for the emergency.
I have two little plates that replace the ash trays and have 3little leds run by 2 AAs.
very cool. thanks for sharing!
Always enjoy your videos, although I don’t watch them often….Happy flights from Brazil, South America..
I go no place without a flashlight or two. Nitecore sells a small USB chargeable called a Tube that clips onto a zipper pull, so a few of my jackets have one attached. The lowest setting is under 10 lumens, so the light isn't over powering in the dark.
RIP I WILL MISS YOUR STORIES 🥀🥀
Great story telling. Felt like I could see you in the cockpit looking about. Be well.
I forgot to put the flashlight on board. Took off from one airport had departure turn me over to the destination airport, and in the process of changing frequencies, all lights went out. Thank goodness the plane I was relocating was old enough that it had a cigarette lighter on the instrument panel. Thank the Lord for that little orange glow.

Wow Andy. I'm glade you made it. With todays airplanes I don't think many people think about this.
Lots of flight schools in the Phoenix area.

Too many people don't take the idea of losing radios seriously. Especially, in IMC. I wouldn't say losing electrical power in a single engine is a rarity either. Batteries and alternators fail. Both have happened to me. I'm very happy I wasn't flying at night in IMC. Losing electricity in VMC on a clear day while flying VFR in a C172 is more of an annoyance and is fairly uneventful. However, it does make a person think about "what if."
I also flew night freight out of Midway Airport for Prompt Air. C210T I wonder if you flew for the same company. I also had a flashlight next to me and many stories 🤣🤣

I flew for a St Louis company. I have no doubt we could trade stories for hours.
I often tell people that flying around in a Cessna Citation is a total piece of piss compared to flying a C210 or Piper Aztec with a single VOR, maybe an RMI and no autopilot. Not only that, but its also operating that ill-equipped plane in the lousy weather you get at around 8 to 10,000 feet.
omg yer my hero
Thank you for sharing...Jim (barqwoof)
What an interesting story from your career. Grateful that all ended well! What was the failure attributed to? Take Care
Been watching your videos for quite some time now anyways how many hours do you have just curious thank you and happy trails

Yeah! Great experience sharing... Thanks. Once I was flying the Baron G58 (MSFS) and the Garmin G1000 NXI went dark about 20 minutes into the one Hour flight. At first, I thought, crap, ESCape and fly another plane. However, I decided to evaluated the situation as in real life: It was a night flight but I was not in danger and VFR conditions. I cycled the Avionics power but nothing. So, knowing there is no Mayday, I cancelled IFR (since I still had radio) and knew where I was. I could see the nearest airport so I decided to landed there.

Glad it worked out. Un, fortunately too many people have had similar misfortunes with worse outcomes. Loved flying the Baron.
Did you ever figure out the problem with the lights?

I wish I could tell you. It’s been so long I forgot what the maintenance guy said.
Is 9 too many flashlights for one person? Naaahhhh, I'm sure it just about the minimum number a person should have. Just be sure to have a supply of replacement batteries.
Good story, but portrait mode looks awfull.
