    I think if you put them in the other way and put two in each corner than the angle pieces will fit together and it would make an even stretch

    I'm new at acrylic painting. And I find your instructional videos very helpful. I was wondering, do you apply the gesso while the canvas is still wet? I'm afraid that it might crack when it dries. Thank you in advance for answering this question. :)

  • @CLIVE5ART

    It's applied to a dry or damp canvas and as it's only very thin it will not crack

    Clive, this is the second video of yours I've recently seen regarding prepping canvases and you've inserted them differently on each one. This one on the diagonal and the other was with the long straight edge running parallel with the canvas. I'm now a little confused which is correct. Does it really matter as long as the canvas becomes taut? Regards, Ian.

    If I did that I'm sorry the flat edge should be horizontal to the stretcher bar but if it's taught it's taught

    After the gesso is applied and the canvas dries, do the keys ever get removed or are they to remain on the canvas frame indefinitely? Great instruction, by the way. Thanks!

    Why do you have to wet the whole canvas first before putting the wooden keys? What is the purpose of it?

  • @CLIVE5ART

    @CLIVE5ART

    What it does is loosen the canvas fibres then adding the keys tighten it up as it dries it then goes vet taught thus making it a better surface
