Save Thread by Using Leaders and Enders!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Stop wasting thread with those pesky thread tails.
By using leaders and Enders not only do you save money over time you save time by not having to go and trim all the thread tails.
The most common leader and ender is just scrap fabric but I prefer to use pieces from another project because not only am I saving thread by putting it in a project instead of scrap fabric or cutting thread tails and tossing them in the trash I’m getting more projects done.

This is actually part of why I got interested in quilt piecing! I thought it was so nifty when I saw various KZreadrs do this thing of pushing pieces through, one after the other. I use a scrap for a leader and then make a game of seeing how many I can run through, cutting off the first pieces and running them through again, sewing the next piece on before having to stop and start all over again. It's part of the good brain exercise that quilting provides! I love it when I have an uninterrupted time where I can work without having to put my sewing machine away.

I do miniature quilt projects, so many of my seams are only an inch long. Think how much thread I would waste if I sewed each of them individually and had waste thread at the beginning and end of each one!

@@betsyoman7173 yes! People think it’s only an inch here and there but it adds up over time and think of how much you can see with all those added up inches.

Instead of using a crumb, put scrap blocks together. You’ll have maybe a dozen scrap blocks by the time one quilt top is finished.

That’s a great idea. I do that when I have enough scraps to start a new project.

I use leaders and enders and have a separate project going too that are tucked under my machine. ❤

If I have a small project that is simple I use them for my leaders/enders.
