Tbf, it’s easier for a professional actor to fake dancing skills in a movie than it is for a professional dancer to fake acting skills in a movie.

Sadly it looked stupid to me then, but I was older (an adult). I was expecting more of a flow between the hip hop and the ballet similar to hiplet but this definitely wasn’t it. This looks choppy and you can also see her counting, but then Julia isn’t a dancer so that’s not her fault.

This was back when they didn't get dancers to act in dancing movies. That's why this movie was so good..because there was actual acting in it. And for a non-dancer, she's actually pretty good (at her hip-hop parts..she didn't do the ballet ones, there is a huge discrepancy between the two parts in terms of level of skill). This was a great movie and Julia is pretty much awesome :)

Considering she is an actress learning dance moves for a movie, I think she did fine. Better than most folk criticizing could do. Try the moves she did in 30 days and then post again. That scene is still legendary which is why it is still being discussed today.

I always thought she had a dance double and they mostly used her for the close up shots. All things considering for a an actress that worked her butt off to learn it and do her best i will give her respect for it to say the least.

Fun Fact : Julia Stiles said that she couldn't finish rewatching Save The Last Dance because of a scene that she felt it was cringe worthy to watch. I could assume it's obviously this scene 😂😂

Maybe didn't last the test of time LOL. SNL did a spot on imitation.

I LOVE this dance scene. Love the song. This version sadly, not available on I-tunes. Only criticism is that her facial expressions do not change. Dancers need to express through their facial expressions as well, not just their moves.
