This is a good idea the only thing is in order to stop certain things like most bacteria, microbial cysts, pesticides, etc. You need a carbon block filter (not carbon granulated) rated 1 micron or less but you do want to use a filter rated around 20 micron or less to remove the bigger particles so that your 1 micron filter won't plug up as fast, you can look this info up on the internet, I'm not no water expert but I found this out through researching how to find the best water filter for our motorhome.

Thanks for this great information. I'm wanting to get a system more of less like yours. How many filters do you use and which size and type? Any addition info would be helpful.

You need 5 and .5 micron. Also, build a stand for the filter with pvc

I just did this. Super easy! Hope it does the job. Id recommend a couple end cap for transporting so the water doesn’t leak all over.

Pro tip buy the replacement clear choice ultra filters starts with 5 micron goes to .5 micron slap those bad boys in there and then you’ll have not wasted all your time. Keep on truckin!

Teflon tape is infact a sealant . It creates a seal for water , air and gas . Just make sure you use the correct tape for the job . Using pipe dope/sealant is added security .

I 3d printed brackets for each filter and used 1/2 pvc to cage it all together.

You mentioned having a wye for flushing your tank. If that's your black tank without a back flow preventer one could contaminate the fresh water. I never hook up my tank flush hose with my fresh water supply hose connected. That is a completely separate action.

I just got a trailer and been looking at doing this same thing. All the commercial ones are so expensive

depending on water pressure / flow, recommend 20, 5, and 1 micron filter. Also should NEVER connect Flush tank hose to a drinking source water line, regardless if there is a valve separating them.. If that hose gets any back wash into it will contaminate your drinking lines and filters. You will have to bleach them after that to kill any bacteria. 🤢🤮

Our water pressure actually got way better when we changed to this filter. We had a smaller filter before and it was making our water pressure terrible.

Does this system produce water that's good enough for drinking? I see the expensive systems online and they seem to filter all the way down to .05 microns, so wondering about the quality (my wife drinks ALOT of water)....

@@edwardheyrich8601 If you want spot free water for washing cars you are going to want an RO system. This system will not take out all the minerals that create spots.

How is the water flow? Was it decreased?

Water pressure usually is way too much for the Rv to handle anyway so a little decrease is good in some instances. So to answer your questions, yes there is a decrease.
