I started using Mel's mix last year and it works! I was able to locate huge bags of vermiculite at the count co-op so that may be a place where you may want to look if you have them.

Mel's mix is what I've used in my beds for years and years. I know peat is controversial, but I have not been able to locate coconut coir in any bulk amount that makes it feasible. And now they're saying that coconut coir, being flown from other parts of the world is not eco-friendly either 🤷

I really like the texture of coconut coir and the way it makes the soil feel compared to peat moss. I’ll still use peat moss though if I can’t find any. Both work great! 😀
