Looking back, you can see how cutting edge Gonz was-he’s doing the stuff that would become “street skating”. But people back then liked Hosoi’s surf style and big airs. I also think Danforth really shines in this video. His Michigan style was unique and channeled a lot of Jay Adams. I love these old videos. Thanks for sharing them!
The wildest thing is seeing myself as a child in this video. Such fond memories of the contest. All of them. I was there. Poor Danny Way man. SS3 he took a lot off of the other skaters. Anyhow I have some stories to tell about those days. Including the “party” that happened. And of course the Cab Auto roof scenario!
Surprised by Mountain's run. He was solid and made the run look effortless.
Old school classic!
Never noticed that Gonz went up a rail instead of down off that crusty jump ramp..they are barely starting to do that now! Way ahead of his time. 😊
Chuck Treece is one of the most underrated musicians ever.

This video is the reason I myself fell in love with skateboarding!!! I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one! Pioneers of the trade!! Paved the way to how technical skating is today!! I'm from Miami and seeing what this art has become at lot 11 skatepark blows my mind!! Thanks for the upload!
I think it was Hosoi Lance and Cab on the podium. I know this is one of the rare occasions that Mountain placed over Hawk in a contest. But I may be remembering the top three wrong..Hosoi and Lance for sure..(maybe) but now I remember Dressen may have been up there.. so dk really. But this was the best leveling ground for all the top pros of the day, Kendall crushed it too. Chris Miller, Kopp, Roscopp, and a bunch more that didn’t make the edit also ripped..Natas man there are the all the pioneers of our beloved pastime setting the stage for Street Skating contests as we know them today. Such a sick piece
Lance’s frontside slash on the back wall..

Who is the skater in the begging just doing tricks in the city while the guy is narrating
Gonzales should of won ! He did many tricks no one even came close to attempting.

I think that's a classic case of being ahead of his time, but 50/50 handrail, FS handrail, UP the handrail, fakie fly-off etc, yes, only one real winner!
Who was the winner? Hosoi?
@mcshagger510
