Savage Rifle Build, Reloading Dies for the .243 Ackley Improved

Ойын-сауық

Savage Rifle Build and the Reloading Dies for the .243 Ackley Improved. I've used them on over 300 loads now and today I shot a 1/4" group at 200 yards with a MV of 3216 average and a SD of under 10. So yes, these dies do work, and work well..!!

I use the Redding body die + Lee collet die setup for my rifle ammo. Good stuff...and cheap!

Those Lee neck sizers are great dies. I use them on a bunch of cartridges and never had any issues.

Use Redding type s bushing die it replaces three of your dies just FYI. Also you can get the bushing you want to be exact on bullet tension in the neck after turning your brass.

You mentioned neck turning brass in this video. Do you neck turn before or after you fireform??? Thanking you in advance.

This maybe a silly question, but is there more than one kind of redding body die? Mine for .308 bumps the shoulder and sizes the body. I need one that just bumps shoulder.thanks

Travis Smith it’s going to size the body a little bit, but if you set it right it’s not sizing as much as a full length die.

Hi ,Sir, quick question, I'm interested in reloading .223 Remington then I saw the pacesetter and ackley from Lee's, what is the difference and what would be best for my semi auto, I'm going to be a casual loader, not going to be reloading hundreds of rounds, thank you in advance.

Myron Maghirang I don’t know how well Ackley will feed compared to the standard 223. You might want to do a little google research on that first.

Curt. I precision load for the .243 and the .308. I use the Lee Collet dies to neck size my Lapua cases. I just got the Redding Body Die for both calibers. My question is this? After how many reloads do you use the body die on your neck sized cases? Do you have a set number or just when they get hard to chamber or extract? BTW, the Lee Collet Dies are an excellent die. In rare instances you may need to order a thinner mandrel from Lee for more neck tension. When my lady friend burns out my .243 barrel Savage we will rechamber the next one for the Ackley Improved.

Peter Kolovos typically I find that every 3rd firing I anneal the brass. This seems to be the best average, at least for me.!

Hi there. Wondering whether you neck-turned the brass for your 243ai? Also what brass did you find was the pick for you? Do you still use the 243 AI you built these days? Cheers. Luke

I did turn all the necks, I do it for all my rifle cases. I don’t have the AI anymore, I switched everything to 6.5 and now buy in bulk. But I still love the .243 AI

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but why the RCBS decapping die when the Lee collet will size and decap? I don't mean any disrespect, just wondering if I'm missing something that can improve the accuracy of my handloads. I'm loading for .223 by the way.

sean vandriel very good question. So once you fire a round, the case neck gets very dirty. You can actually measure the amount of build up. If you use the collet first, your squishing carbon on the neck. I like to pop the primer only then clean the brass. Once it's clean, then the collet die.. Thanks for watching and the question.

Vaughn Precision ok good!! I think I'm still on the right track. I like to tumble first, then decap with my collet neck sizer. After that I'll clean the primer pockets. I usually only load 25 or 50 at a time, but I see where you're saving a bit of elbow grease by recapping before tumbling. 👍 keep up the great work by the way!! Love these Savage vids brother
