I find many times the camera wrecks things. It just does. Also, my save Mark II loves CCI standard velocity ammunition. When I could buy it cheap I planned ahead and got a good supply since my rifle really performs well with it. Also, the bore cam is an experience. My Savage 110 shoots great but the bore cam shows how terrible the inside looks. Chatter marks, pitting, just terrible looking. Thank you for taking us along on your range trips.

The rangers my local gun store got in required bedding and floating, the stock/chassis to action barrel was a pretty poor fit. It improved accuracy significantly. 22RF ammo can have big differences between batch lots, I’d be sure there would be differences between different manufacturers that get boxed under the same label. After cleaning I allow at least 20 rounds to season my barrels.

I sent my Ranger back for repairs for feeding and ejecting. Christensen sent back a superstar. It does pretty well with most ammo brands but Lapua center x and biathlon are the real deal. I have 10 rounds of RWS R50 I'm holding for a clear calm day that were given to me. it shoots CCI standard velocity and Federal bulk box pretty well. Aquila fails always! Thanks!

The defects in the Savage barrel are tooling marks from the rifling process. They probably used worn tooling for your barrel. The tool was not cutting cleanly and was tearing the barrel material as the tool was pulled through the barrel. Also, when I was in college (late 70s) many of the 10 meter shooter on the college team did not clean their barrels for thousands of rounds. They would only clean it if accuracy was being lost. Most only pulled a couple of dry patches though the barrel and clean the chamber after a shooting session.

I hope you can get the Savage figured out I really like that brand. I have a Savage model 64 22lr semi-auto and a Savage 93R17 17HMR bolt action. If you get a chance to will you do a review and group shooting with a Savage 93R17 17HMR? I hope you will to see what you think about it and to see how accurate it is. Thank you Sir.

Great video ! You are right about thee bore scope! I wish I could unsee some of the things I've found. Funny thing I learned is the barrel don't have to look good to shoot good. ... That oryx chassis deserves a better barrel. I'll be following the next steps to see what I can learn with your hard earned money :)

Thanks (from way down the same rabbit hole) for posting these "warts'n all" video's, they are what we all learn the most from!! I wonder if the focus on 22's accuracy is too much on "things barrel related". The more I play (and think) I suspect that ignition (the whole firing mechanism thing) and headspace (and I don't think this relates solely to an exact measurement either) are at least if not more important -I've shot quite a few old BSA and Vickers Martinis' with barrels that look like crap .... and the thing that gets the biggest improvement very time - clean the breech block internals and replace the main spring!

You just touched on what I consider to be two of the most important factors, consistent ignition and barrel/chamber.

I have the Ranger with a dark stock, the purpose of my Ranger is to be a light weight squirrel hunting rifle. I have one of those little compact 6X Burris target scopes mounted and sighted in with Federal auto match ammo which it groups into a ragged hole at Squirrel hunting ranges. It is everything I hoped it would be. Al

Will be done after this year's Kelbys Super Shoot.

Do you have wind flags that you use? If not some of the "fliers" can be wind switches. I shoot benchrest matches and you would be suprised how much a little wind can move the bullet in 50 yards.

barrel harmonics is a lot like flipping a spring, take a little more time between shots and allow the barrel to settle down, barrel harmonics do not disappear instantly

F class shooter speedy Gonzalo’s said not to use bronze brush on cracked barrels say bristles get caught in them. Also he puts lock ease which has graphite in his well used barrels. Just run a swab let it dry because it’s Alcohol Basel’s. I’ve been experimenting with boron nitride to get rid of the first round flyers.

  • @accuracyfreaks442
    @accuracyfreaks4422 жыл бұрын

Im thinking headspace, Let me explain why. You have three close or touching and more consistently 2 flyers. If it was crown, barrel ect. It would consistently shoot all shots inconsistent. lol You still with me? Im no expert by no means but, ive played with headspace on my Lilja match 22lr barrel enough to see the same results when your .001"-.002" out . For my barrel .040" and .042" both shot really well but it also depends on your chamber depth and how much engraving you want on your projectile. Thanks for the video and hope this helps

Cleaning vrs not cleaning has been a heated debate as long as I recall the smell of burnt powder. Everyone has an opinion about it but I offer only this; Every year we head to southern Oregon to shoot sage rats with an old timer that has been guiding for 30+ years. I asked him his opinion about cleaning rimfire rifles. He said to me, “I don’t know the answer to that age old question but i know this. The most accurate 22LR i have ever had is an old 10/22 that I have never cleaned the bore”. He cleans the mags and the action but leaves the bore seasoned to a degree that it would drive me insane. It shoots. What else do we need i guess.

Don’t chop the barrel down to 17”s. Need to send the barrel to Texas for Eley testing or to Phoenix Arizona for Lapula testing to see which ammo is really made for that rifle get the tightest groups.

I think Savages trick for that lousy rifling is to choke the muzzle & that’s why the mediocre MKII does as well as it does. When you cut the barrel and re-crown, the choke (the smaller ID of the barrel) is gone and I think the MKII will group even worse. This will be interesting to see.

  • @Dayattherange

If you go back a couple videos, when Eli shoved a bore scope down the barrel, lapping is pointless for this gun. Lapping will never fix, that barrel.
