I said that line about *stealing us* People went crazy. It was beautiful, I said *shout to Saul* after but no one caught it. 🧐

I will never get why they don't teach you current poets in school to inspire you to put your own take on current problems in the world. I feel that would help a lot more people

My god. He NEVER ceases to amaze me. I own the movie, have seen it a hundred times, own his albums, books.. and yet every time I hear him, I find something visceral and new. He is so brilliant. Thank you, Saul. I was going to say you make me proud to be a poet, but I ammend that to : you make me proud to be human. Phenomenal!

This movie made me become a writer professionally. I caught it randomly when I was flicking through channels late at night as a 15-year-old kid. Shit changed everything.

"Their existence is of that of a schizophrenic vulture" this lines still got me thinking..

I got a chance to meet him (Saul Williams) at my school and he is great person and writer. I love his books, poems, and music.

Shout out Mr. Faber, my freshman English teacher who showed us this movie. We were learning Shakespeare in class, but he would play Tupac, let us bring in our own songs and then got special permission to show us this movie. All to show how diverse “poetry” can be. I hope you’re doing well Faber.

Watching this after many years and realizing him doing this in the setting of a PRISON is astonishing.

Slam and Saul Williams are both criminally underrated. I watch this movie every once in awhile to remind myself.

I'm always coming back to this video no matter what. It's like the first thing that pops into my head when I think of what to watch

I liked reading it in Seventh Octave.. you could see him spell the 'Serious B, Dog-gone N...." etc.. go on to talk about stars in stripes, and astrology. BUT few know he words it "Sirius B, Dogon... " Alluding even MORE into the stars as Sirius B is one AND the Dogon are an African society noted for their incredible astronomical skill AND the belief that they're descended from the stars.

As powerful as this clip is, it is, here, diminished by the lack of context. The tension built up before this scene is palpable, and Saul's words slice it up and toss it in the air like confetti. Succinctly displays the power of the spoken word. Brilliant.

One of the biggest moments of my life was to hand this man some of my poetry on Valentine’s Day while I looked him in his eyes and thanked him for his talent. Saul is Amazing.

This is an amazing poem.

Some of you haven't given the greatest reviews of the movie. And quite honestly, I can barely remember what the plot was, so I can't agree or disagree. But it's always held a special place in my mind as part of my introduction to the artform of spoken word poetry. I caught it on cable in the middle of the night one night YEARS ago. Between this and Jessica Care More's run on the Apollo around the same time, I was inspired to pick up the pen, and I haven't put it down since. Thanx 4 posting.
