All this time, whenever you buy oil from Saudi or other OPEC countries, you have to use US dollar. Now UAE (they're basically OPEC leader) open to other currency, so country like China could buy oil with their own currency (Yuan), not US Dollar. This is big. Because US economy is based how strong US dollar is. USD used to be based to gold not oil, but in Nixon era apparently US don't have much money and gold, so in 70's US made a deal with The Saudi, that oil trade would only using US dollar and for exchange US would provide support and military aid to Saudi. That's why it called Petrodollar. However since US keep printing money and using US Dollar to dictate other countries (in politic, economy, etc), havoc in Middle East, a lot of countries now on the move or thinking to stop using US Dollar. Especially China (of course). Rusia already step further, they're already stockpilling bitcoin and gold for years now, and already build their own oil pipeline in The Artic. That's why Rusia don't even bother to US or NATO sanction about Ukraine. It's kinda explain why US gov all this time so keen about oil resources and building military complex. Eisenhower already warned everybody about the cons of military complex. Especially because The Fed (who controlled Dollar), public don't really knows whose The Fed unknown investors, all people know from documentaries that Rotschild and Rockefeller are there when The Fed in the making.

When they remove the gold backing standard is because people see the US dollar was not Worth its value as there were more money (US dollar) then the amount of gold. The smart move by Nixon to do the deal with Saudi Arabia was that all oil sales had to be in US currency. This made the US dollar to become a commodity and hence the whole world had to buy US dollar in order to buy crude oil.

I don't understand why this is. Shouldn't any currency be able to trade for anything ? You convert your currency to the currency of whom you are buying from and pay with that ? As in, why dont the ppl who sell oil just sell it for any currency, factoring in the value of said currency to the price of a barrel of oil etc ? Its basically the same as converting it beforehand. or Why didn't saudi arabia say you need to convert your money into our money, then you can buy our oil ? Do they really say, you need to convert your money to american dollars before we can sell you oil ? Also how the hell is this even enforced and why ? It all doesn't make much sense to me............ I go on holidays to another country i exchange my dollar for their dollar etc etc.....so its easier to you know, buy stuff rather than converting in my mind and trying to give them my dollar amount that equals their price amount of my currency, of which they would then have to go exchange for their currency..... oh i think i see now...... Still, why does it matter if oil producers want you to give them 1 currency over another ? How does it drop the other currency in value ? It shouldnt change anything.......

They want to trade their natural resources for something that has value over time (such as gold). This value comes from stability of the currency. For eg. if you can buy 1 pair of shoes with $1 in 2000 and same pair of shoes with $1 in 2020, the value of the currency is preserved. If the price goes up, value of currency goes down. Think about it, with new technology our productivity has gone up, but still price of commodity is going up instead of going down. Why? It's because value of currency has went down. US dollar was a reserve currency because it was stable i.e., it retained its value over time compared to any other currency. Right now dollars are just printed by the US government. To give you a perspective, Chinese have accumulated $3.25 trillion in foreign reserves over the span of 20 YEARS by exporting products around the world, which is produced by blood, sweat and tears of poor Chinese people. By contrast, US govt. just printed $3.38 trillion in year 2020 alone i.e, almost one in five dollars was created in 2020 out of nothing. Because oil is traded in US dollars, this inflation is felt around the world and not just in US. If however, oil starts to be traded in another currency, inflation in US will be limited to US and not in another country. Then what happened in Argentina might happen in US but they won't let it happen because they use force of their military. How is it enforced? Military intervention in the name of "democracy".

Now we know why they weren't taking Sleepy Joe's call.

Why hold US dollars when on a whim they dilute the value of your holdings by printing trillions of dollars into existence. You have to treat them as a hot potato and immediately pass them on to the next sucker in exchange for physical assets. Those dollars will end up going home.

Most countries will move from US dollars, now they have seen how easily they can be sanctioned and there assets can be frozen. This is very serious for those that understand global economics. If countries stop buying US Government bonds. US $ and economy in deep deep trouble with the debt levels they are operating at.

I do not think the world is ready for buying PRC's or Russia's government bonds, and fragility of Russian economy doesn't make it a great market. And also North America, Australia and Europe are primary markets for Chinese products. Saudi Arabia can be soften pretty fast with embargo on military equipment and spare parts. They have a lot of enemies in the region and sort of unrest in its own backyard.

Saudi Arabia is a independent country. they are free to decide what to do and what not to . .

So you blame China for buying their own goods with their own currency... What would you do if Saudi announces BitCoin can also buy oil? who would you sanction then?

The US is a major oil producer and is not buying oil from Saudi. On the other hand, China has become the biggest buyer of Saudi oil. It make sense for them to trade in their currencies. The recent act of barring Russia from Swift also make them realize the risk of using USD for their trade.

You see there was a petro dollar pact. the money earned from saudi will go back to US in the form of them buying US bonds. But currently the country called Yemen is planning to attack Saudi. So the saudi want protection against them, as written in the petro dollar pact. So what saudi is doing is more of warning, to remind US its obligations to protect them. The only problem is that the us troops will go to another war in the middle East . So it kind of beats the purpose of Afghanistan retrieval.

US still has the world's biggest military, but good luck using it... If US invades China then the US economy will crash since we are so dependent on them. If US invades Russia then Europe may get mad since they rely on Russian oil and are in nuclear firing distance from Russia. My "dumb" suggestion is that the US build cities like those in Vietnam, Japan, China that are made for ebikes or kick-scooters rather than cars, along with limited space heaters/coolers like the kotatsu. We then can use the extra oil and natural resources that the US has to buy things we need...

Losing the petrodollar and having the world divert from USD as the main reserve currency is the worst thing that could happen to US. With trillions in debt, the US was able to continue printing its currency without Venezuela-scale inflation only because its inflation has been shared by the entire world. This is what made US the superpower to begin with. Countries like Iran or Venezuela, who faced the consequences of the dollar hegemony, have been too small or too unimportant for the world to take swift actions. Now, Russia is a different thing. The blow on the dollar reputation has been done, there is no going back now. Trust me, the day will come when Putin will send Biden et al a set of medals for what they have done to USA.

The US is not world reserve currency because it befits the US. The reason it is world reserve currency is because it is stable and very deep financial roots. The US currency is backed by thousands of trillions of US assets and a gold reserve that is larger than China, Russia and Saudi Arabia combined. If the US was to give up its reserve currency status it would actually benefit the US as it would refocus its wealth internally. Prior to the US being considered world reserve currency the Bretton Woods agreement was fully funded by the US.

It’s also about having a dignity. For example, I work in a US MNC company here in India but I would happily give up my job if US sanctions us. Yeah, we are witnessing history unfold. I thought that I would die living in status quo. But hey, look at that. US hegemony is slowly cracking before our eyes.

Can't say I blame them the way these politicians here are destroying our dollar.

The end of Petrodollar is in sight and when it occurs, so will the end of USD as the reserve currency in the world. And with the amount of USD denominated bonds sold over the years currently held in many countries around the world, once these countries start ditching the USD for other currencies and other assets, the end of US hegemony and US empire will occur.

All I know is that every time a oil rich country tries to circumvent the us dollar the usa goes to war with that country...

@@bighands69 Iraq was an ally of the U.S. right up until it wanted to deal only in euros. It's a historical fact. Just as its a historical fact that there were no weapons of mass destruction. The same thing happened to Libya. If the U.S. had an issue with evil behavior, it would have destroyed Saudi Arabia long ago.

If this time US wages war, it will get nuked..... All the leaders of majority of the Asian countries are meeting..... Chinese and Indian ministers are meeting too (they rarely meet together), Middle East has already talked with Putin.... There's a limit to bullying, threatening, waging wars and sanctioning......

A simple question. What purpose does the USA military serve if it would not protect the American people and this country from a man whose mental health is rapidly declining?

The purpose of the US military is to maintain the petrodollar, which allows the US and its citizens to borrow endless amounts of money. Thats it, plain and simple.

People already know how big the Bogus Dollar is; when it replaced gold, the genuine money. The shame for the people is they could not understand for the last 50 years. However, you cannot make everyone blind for the infinity period.

Using USD as a weapon was the original sin. now everyone lost confidence in the dollar

Now Saudi Arabia starts having some democracy and human right issues🙂
