tip for making cut manes look more "pulled" - use the same technique (ie the hold some hairs and backcomb the rest) but then cut instead of pulling out and repeat. Takes longer than a chop but avoids the bowl cut look! Research shows that pulling manes DOES hurt horses despite what most people think so cutting is the most humane option 😊
Hello Holly, amazing to see you both back together in Austraila. What a transformation ❤. I think Rocky definitely missed you over the winter. I wonder how he managed to lose so much weight with you not there to care for him, he was in fabulous condition after your great work with him last season x

I used to have an ottb, they usually loose weight in the winter because of the rugs and the breed. My ottb lost so much weight, I wasn't able to ride him. He'd thrown me off before winter, and I had a terrible knock of confidence. He then got sick, and we were forced to sell him because I couldn't deal with him anymore because his racing side came out. Hes gone to a lovely home though!

Some horses don't hold onto weight unless they're being worked enough to keep their muscles really built.
I cut manes, too! I'll use thinning shears to help make it a bit more natural looking. I feel like most horses prefer to have their manes cut anyway. Loved seeing the makeover! Rocky is looking great!
Here's a trick I was taught by a past coach of the US Special Olympics Equestrian Team for a natural looking , scissor cut mane. Comb mane over to the wrong side, wet the roots so it lays as flat as possible if needed. Cut while on the wrong side then comb back over. It looks perfectly natural. This works great on our TB. Not so much on the Haflinger whose mane is so thick that you could plait 3 running braids in it!😄
I used heavy duty clippers for years and switched to those clippers this year and absolutely love them! 🙂
The love hearts are SO CUTE! Thanks for sharing this makeover with us :D
He is such a teddy bear! I adore this horse. Looking forward to your next videos of him Holly. What a chilled dude for his first clip!
Sweet Rocky Boy looks adorable ❤ Hope you're enjoying Australia so far!
Rocky's a very smart boy now. 💕 Loving the pair of love hearts! 💕. Lots of love and such fun too! xOx.
More Rocky videos!!! I want to see how far you guys go this year. It's been really cool coming along on his journey. ❤❤❤
So satisfying! He looks amazing :D
What a good boy Rocky was, he seems very calm for an OTTB!

OTTBs get a bad rep but they can be extremely sensible, especially when it comes to ground handling/manners as they’ve been there seen everything usually and should be very good to shoe, clip, load all that malarkey even if the riding retraining takes a bit of effort. Plus usually they’re fairly bright and have a good work ethic/want to learn.
He is a Sweetheart! Looks loads better, good job Holly. Do enjoy a make-over vlog!
you can see he has missed you. he is so sweet bless him. xx
This was so satisfying!!
He looks amazing, awesome job
Gorgeous job Holly! Well done☺️👍🏻💕
Hearts are perfect! What a good boy - he looks so good!❤❤❤
Hi holly ,nice to see the thing's you both get up to, AND take care both.
I hope you don’t get tired of your bangs - they are cute 🥰
He is such a good boy! So smart. Xx
you two are such a good pair you can tell Rocky really adores the attention. do you think you'll buy another ottb after he is sold and continue training another one while in Australia? I think you're really good at it and it is so nice to see such huge transformations from them!
Yup -- Rocky looks very handsome, Holly. Great job! JV
Good job!!!!!
Hey Holly CONGRATULATIONS son the win with Rocky!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder if any of your horses have ever been bitten by a venomous snake?!!! I know there are a lot of of them in Australia? Plz let me know Thank You
Aww I forget it's winter in Australia, it's just so warm in the UK . First time commting on your videos long time watcher though . Rocky is a stunning boy .

Nah it's spring now, we did just get a massive storm though. The next few weeks are meant to be really hot for us
What a good boy and he looks so handsome.
What a good boy 🥰🇮🇪🍀💚
Well done
There are many horse who don't want to be clipped on teir head and legs.😊 Rocky was very cool. I saw already horses clipped like a zebra. You see, you also let the saddlepad without clipping.
I cut my mane as well, and then use my clippers to make it look more natural.
Rocky looks great! - i also saw you were selling him, sad to see but I live in Victoria and I'm looking for a 5-10 year old that can do a bit of everything for fun, how much do you think he'll be, and is there any requirements to buying him? I have heaps of trails around my area, so I think he'll love it!
I have never got the hang of cutting manes with scissors - I can only pull them. Every time I cut with scissors, even to tidy up, the poor horse ends up looking like a child who’s mother has given them a bad bowl cut for school picture day 😂

He looks great. Can't wait for some jump videos. He was doing so well last year. Does someone ride him while you're gone?

No I think he's had the whole time off
Could do a love heart on your fancy showjumpers if you weren't a coward! (JOKE! Tho honestly I think it would be amazing! If what's her name the Israeli showjumper can fill her hair with feathers, can't see why a heart would be a problem!) Rocky looks lovely! Excited to see what the two of you get up to!

Rocky looks shining, but a bit skinny.😊

What’s his breeding? He’s rather fine

He's an off-the-track thoroughbred.🙂
I understand that people clip their horse, because of sweating by working. But why they don't clip the space where the saddlepad comes? That's where they sweat more i think. Clipping ok but for me i like long manes. But i understand you want to make him like a sporthorse.😊
@Hors3Editz

Leaving the space for the saddle kinda gives the saddle pad a place to sit, it rubs less on the horse and stays in place (im pretty sure!)
@joannesmartens9442

@@Hors3Editz yes that's right, and it gives more protection. But what i meant is thats the hottest place because of the saddle, saddlepad and rider. 🥰
Why can't people just leave manes alone?? Especially if they don't compete in dressage.
@danielabackstrom

Why not?
@luemun

Because they like the tidy look? It doesn't hurt the horse to have its mane trimmed.
@stellap.680

Because long manes look bad on some horses

@@luemun Maybe not, but it is hideously ugly. I would rather see a mane hogged than trimmed in a straight line like that.

@@stellap.680 Straight lines look bad on ALL horses lol.
Clipping is abuse??? That must be why my wild mustang let's me clip her and LOVES the scratch/massage! People are nuts.
