It isn't "blaming the horses" to explain that horses can spook, since they did clearly spook - and that being the flight herd animals they are, one horse spooking can head to the others panicking and bolting too. People who know nothing about horses want to know what happened, someone in the horse world explained. That doesn't mean the horses did anything wrong, or are going to be punished, or any nonsense like that.

A building site dropped something from the roof to the ground causing a loud noise which would be enough to spook any horse!! Stop with the conspiracy crap!

This isn't as simple as some horses got spooked and ran off something has seriously frightened them them for them to react like this. As much as I'd like to know what caused it and am sorry for anyone injured let's not forget these magnificent animals are living breathing creatures that should be given the respect of us who care being told if they are in recovery too..

@@rockthejohnson I doubt it I grew up around horses my mother and two other relatives also kept riding stables near areas that had construction going on and was also along a busy road there was never a case of spooking by any of these things had their have been my relatives could not have run the trecking which was for disabled riders. Aside from this said the guards horses are specifically trained and picked for service which means any that are flighty or have bad reactions would not be chosen.

@@Lisafer15 Even the steadiest horse had spook at someone strange and unknown. They spooked. You can see they spooked. Horses don't casually gallop into the side of a car or bus when they're not spooked!! My god, the people who only have relatives who've been around horses claiming they know better, when you clearly don't know horses at all. These horses are specifically trained and chosen for being steady, and desensitised to normal city noises, but horses are still horses, and anything strange or unknown could have easily spooked one or two, and led to a chain reaction.

The official statement given says they were spooked by construction materials being dropped "from height" off of the building being worked on. They did not clarify how the white horse was injured, but they are all under care of veteranarians. The riders are also under care of doctors and none are seriously injured. The whole thing was a terrible accident, it seems, and I for one am glad they will all physically recover. I hope special care is taken with the horses to desensitize them against future loud encounters. No horse is absolutely "bomb proof" against such a crashing noise, though, nor are the riders. My prayers and support are with them all for a swift and full healing!

@@deesolomon4819 Thank you for that information, Dee. The nearest I have been to magnificent horses is the Grand National. I lived 2 fields away and saw horses being taken around the area. Other than that, a donkey ride on Blackppol beach when I was 5 is as far as I ever went. 😁

I’ve been chauffeuring in London for 40 years. I see the cavalry exercising their horses nearly every day. Never seen anything like this happen before. The cavalry are excellent riders. Let’s just hope this doesn’t happen again. No doubt someone will start a petition to stop them riding them in central London

Is it the horse bleeding? That looks like something was sprayed onto it, not seeping from a wound and it's not spurting. Also, note where the blood is: On the chest, yet, but there's a patch on the near side hind hocks: That would suggest splash, not bleed. However yes: Hope they're all okay.

Building materials were dropped from high up landing beside them. Sudden and loud. That is what spooked them. An unusual thing. I wish people would stop speculating like this without information. These guesses are often the ones that stick, spreading guesses rather than facts.

No one knows and if they did they would not tell you the truth behind it!

Those horses and riders are too well-trained for 5 of them to simultaneously unseat their riders and bolt. I'd really like to know what set them off, for this to happen. That poor grey obviously has multiple injuries. I hope he's not as seriously hurt as he looked! Did no one even attempt to calm and catch any of them? I find that in itself rather shocking.

If horse is comin at you just stand still .. a horse will always do all it can to go round you or not hit you its same when jumping with horse if u take dive that horse in mid,air will try jump to side or try jump that little bit further on landing to miss you and not land on top you or hurt you .. this guy is horseman and he should be telling people this rather than tryin scare and terrify people on subject .. poor horses the cut might look worse than it really is just cause its white horse the blood .as hopefuly look worse than really is .. hope all animals n people make quick recovery ASAP... godbless poor animals

I would hardly call it satirical!! The lack of empathy in this headline.... Those Horses get the training, lots of it. The riders however come into this profession without previous knowledge and skills and all have to learn how to mount a horse and to sit it within a short amount of weeks! Documentary had been done on bbc i believe. Short training, hair raising skills when completed such (show) training ending up merely bobbing on the horse with little control. Horse shoes on asphalt is like ice skating, no grip. Adding a rider , good luck! Nasty slips and horse rearing to be found in previous tv celebrations. The traffic needs to be regulated like the one in newmarket. Horses before cars which have to come to a stop. This is pure Negligence.

They obviously need to treat the horsemanship part of the job much more seriously. Horses are not furry bicycles. I’ve spent my entire life learning about them and teaching about them, five decades, and I know that there is no life long enough to know it all. A few months learning to ride and learning military protocols is nothing compared to the task of daily life with horses. Accidents happen to the best of us. I hope they are ok. Good horsemanship isn’t much more than good habits installed so when it becomes the Wild West you are as best set up as possible to preserve lives. I wonder how many of these riders are taught a one rein stop, or an emergency dismount. It’s an appalling outcome when horses snd people get hurt from an incident like this. I also would look at how these horses are trained with fresh eyes. I saw a clip of them being mounted for a patrol around London- not a single horse out if about twenty actually knew to stand and park for the rider to mount safely, each had one or two soldiers holding them. That’s a basic skill that any riding horse should know, and that they don’t train it raises questions about what else is overlooked, doubly do considering the environment they expect these animals to perform in. I love the horses snd roukd be sad to see them go. But man they have to pull their socks up in how they prepare these teams because London is not getting any safer.

Having worked myself with horses in germany (dressage and show jumping) and having my own, I always have to grit my teeth when I see the riders in London bobbing on the beautiful horses. Reins, legs... and that in full traffic. I know that wearing the full uniform can be another factor but that was training yesterday and I've seen such in london myself. Not one would I have let ride in traffic if they were one of my students. - as an instructor you would be sued for negligence or worse with that type and scale of incident yesterday. It goes to show that very basic training which is mostly for riding in formation at slow pace, is not enough for modern metropolitan city traffic. I very much agree with you on having a look at their training with fresh eyes. I am aware it is army rules but it needs to be looked at how it can be integrated safely into modern times. I'm sure it wasn't the first incident a rider fell off in training. Last night, the white horse was shown before it was put in the box and my god... how they fiddled with the bandage... the clip was very short, and I would have liked to see a little more action when it comes to first aid. I know it is a short clip yet it was to see that the bandage part looked a little hesitant (Wound cleaning and bandaging for travel) looked a bit, for a lack of a better word, questionable. Hopefully an update on the horses will be released. 🥺

The cleaners were out within two hours after they had captured the non rampaging but clearly frightened horses clearing the debris and cleansing the blood from the streets. Remember these horses are technically Troopers they deserve the respect ,which the majority of London showed yesterday. All the horses were acting up yesterday,not just the ones who escaped . If anything like this happened to my herd i would first be checking their feed to see if it was tampered with ,these horses are beloved as are the Lifeguards and Blues & Royals troopers, they are iconic and therefore sadly a target . This happened with our college mascot. This was a lippizane, which ran onto the football field and among the players. In our case, I know the horse was typically corked up their backside during its time on the field. This was to prevent the horse from dumping feces in front of the crowd of spectators. Also, these calvary horses are typically pestered by tourists.

This was covered yesterday by the Wallytron video channel. What they failed to mention was BIG BEN Stopped at 9:00 And chimed 11 times!!! Strange things going on!

The Militrary need to urgently review how they manage equines within the context of modern day challenges. The events earlier this week could have been avoided if a pre-ride reconesance excercise had taken place. This is a must in today's London. The Militrary need to work with the mounted police regarding safety in preparing horses for public duty and roadwork. Hi VIS(ability) PPE was missing from both horses and riders. This may have caught the eye of the construction workers prompting them to stop work whilst the troop past by. The police use PPE effectively for horse and rider. The army needs to realise that safety comes before traditional exercise dress. An outcome from these events must be that Hi VIS PPE is mandatory for roadwork.

Bad take: a bus was damaged, horses gone wild, et cet. Footage showed two good boys clearly frightened and bleeding badly, but trotting home together. I'd actually like to know the condition of the horses, and then the cavalry guards. Not so interested in speculation.

One horse going rogue is a coincidence. But two at the same time have clearly planned this together, probably in the stables when the other horses where asleep.

Hmmm. The white horse is covered in "blood". I think that "blood" is just a little bit too bright and RED, like red paint. Blood is actually a little deeper, richer, almost has a little brownish tint to it. And OMG, where is the GASH, or cuts, that would cause such profuse bleeding? If that horse was so badly injured that it's bleeding that profusely, he'd be showing other symptoms, like limping or staggering. I don't believe this .......OK, update! I just saw some footage that showed the white horse crashing into one of those big buses and smashing the glass window. The dark horse might also have collided with the bus but it would be hard to see any blood on him. The white horse probably has multiple scratches and cuts, and is sweaty from running so the blood looks alot thinner and spread out everywhere.

These horses are deliberately bred for the kings guards,it is unacceptable in 2024 that horses are still being used in this way. Let the tourists go to Disneyland.

@@jjradV I think you will find they get turned out in fields and ride on the beaches in the sea. Trust me their life is a lot better than other horses you see in the countryside.

According to law, animals are non-human subjects of law and sentient beings. We are responsible. Such, as we are responsible about soldiers. I think there must be a great reform about what horses mean to British Forces and Power, but....Nowadayes horses are historical forces. Just our argentine Granaderos a Caballo. Well, as argentine, I grew up with horses....

Nope- capilliary bleed can be that shade. Arterial can be bright red (highly oxigenated), but that'd be spurting, not seeping, so multiple shallow cuts, perhaps. Horse is running so sweating which would dilute the blood, spreading it and lightening the colour. Not a bleed from a vein, though: That's much darker.
