Great overview! I love the serene faces on these dolls - they look a bit like the figures in Alex Katz paintings from the 60s.

I recently found an African American Sasha doll at America's Thrift Store here. She looks very much like the AA girl on your display with the floral dress and brown sandals. She was piled in the porcelain dolls section, and I just decided to dig through it and found her for 7.99. She had her wrist tag saying Serie England which at the time I wasn't sure she was a Sasha doll because I don't have knowledge of these dolls. She is missing one of her brown sandals and the other one needs to be reglued together. Both Sasha videos have helped me understand so much about her and thank you for the information. Take care.

Hello, and thank you for your thoughtful question. When Sasha first had these dolls manufactured in Germany back in the 1960s, there were no dolls made that would have been considered African. Remember, these dolls were not manufactured in the USA, so European black dolls aren’t considered “African American.” They would be Black European. However, the amazing thing about these early Sasha dolls is that Sasha created them with rather interesting and dark skin tones. Are they Asian? Hispanic? Moroccan? Hawaiian? The beauty of these dolls is that a child of any background could be quite comfortable playing with them. I hope that this helps!

@@belleannecurry1801 thank you! That makes perfect sense. I haven’t seen any Sasha dolls with dark enough skin like the Cora to identify. Sellers are misleading on eBay by stating that the Sasha dolls are African American but only the Cora doll has the distinct brown skin. I think I will just go with a Cora doll.
