Sarah J, Maas in conversation with Eva Chen at Live Talks Los Angeles
discussing her novel, “A Court of Silver Flames”
This video is from a virtual event held on Feb 21, 2021.
Sarah J. Maas is the #1 New York Times and internationally bestselling author of the Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass, and Crescent City series. Her books have sold more than thirteen million copies and are published in thirty-seven languages.
Eva Chen is the director of fashion partnerships at Instagram and a children's book author. Previously she was editor-in-chief of Lucky and beauty and health director at Teen Vogue.
Sarah J. Maas’s sexy, richly imagined series continues with the journey of Feyre’s fiery sister, Nesta.
Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming HighFae against her will, she’s struggled to find a place for herself within thestrange, deadly world she inhabits. Worse, she can’t seem to move past thehorrors of the war with Hybern and all she lost in it.
The one person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred warrior whose position in Rhysand and Feyre’s Night Court keeps him constantly in Nesta’s orbit. But her temper isn’t the only thingCassian ignites. The fire between them is undeniable, and only burns hotter as they are forced into close quarters with each other.
Meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the Continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms. And the key to halting them might very well rely on Cassian and Nesta facing their haunting pasts.
Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance-and healing-in each other’s arms.

I literally teared up because Sarah has no idea how much she has impacted my life with the worlds she created. 😭 I will buy anything she publishes. I hope she always writes books for the rest of her life.

The reasoning and explanation you give for why Nesta reads her romance books is exactly why I read too. My life has a lot of stuff going on but the books always provide an escape and a comfort.

ACOSF is my favorite book of this series because it was super relatable. A lot of the lines resonate with what I am going through in my life. I feel like this book found me right when I needed it. It will forever impact me and change the way that I judge myself because I can see that I am not alone in my battles.

The whole time I was reading ACOSF, I kept thinking Cassian and Azriel reminded me of JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood male characters and I LOVE that SJM has read that series too 😍

Wow, it's fascinating to hear about someone else who cries while writing. I'm working on a 6-booker fantasy myself, and I just haven't personally heard that from anywhere before, save for, of course, myself. Very validating to hear that from her!

Wow! What an inspirational watch. I practically inhaled every word and pieces of advice as an aspiring author myself. She literally takes me out of this world with her stories. I was reading a Stephen King book when someone recommended Sarah's books to me. I read one page. Just one. That's all it took to read every single one of her books back to back and I still haven't picked my Stephen KIng one back up! The hangovers from each book are immense, but the journey through Sarah's storytelling is like a drug. Completely addictive. I can only ever dream of being able to create worlds as she does.

the fact that some people genuinely hate nesta because of the way she acted and treated her sisters baffles me. it makes me absolutely so sad that these people cannot understand the depth of what sjm was trying to show us through that book. it’s so crazy how people can interpret someone’s journey so differently and call nesta an evil character because of her actions that came out of a horrible place in her life

Thank you SJM for putting Nesta as someone who did start out with substance abuse at first - maybe SJM didn’t experience that but just Nesta’s mental health experience but for all us girls who self medicated with substances - this was saving.

When Sarah said she could talk for a whole hour about giving advice to younger writers, Eva interrupts and says "We don't have a whole hour but just 10 minutes and blah blah." Super stupid and rude as if Sarah was really going to talk for an hour about advice as I'm sure she knew about time constraints. Major cringe.
