I think it had been about a week after he died, triple j played this on the radio as tribute. I remember doing homework at the dining table, arguing with my mum about doing it while she was frantically cleaning the house for whatever reason, I can’t remember now. And my step dad was preparing dinner. I remember there was so much noise and chaos happening and then this came on. Bowie has been a massive part of all three of our upbringings, so as soon as we heard it begin the chaos stopped. We all stopped what we were doing and just listened. It was so strange and sad. The fact that just one song managed to collectively capture us and pull us away from reality for a moment. The house was completely silent. At the end Mum cried.

On the strength of this one clip, I purchased three of this artist's albums. A remarkable musician.

My darling Sarah Blasko, loved her from the moment I heard her and saw her at Splendour in the Grass decades back. Then saw her perform at the Sydney Opera House. Australian music industry is weak now. I miss 90's Aus music. Regurgitator, Spiderbait, You am I, Deadstar, Tumbleweed, The Mavis's, Skulker, Something for Kate, TISM etc

I was really hoping someone wouldn't come in and butcher a Bowie song for Like A Version today. Then Sarah Blasko does this amazing rendition of Life On Mars... well done! Loved it.

After so many years this is still on my playlist. Sarah Blasko is such a sublime talent. There aren't many artists who can perform a cover that is as good, if not better, than the original and make it 'their own'. Sarah has done that twice for me, this and Flame Trees.

Very experienced singer, singing in choirs since she was very young (her father was a minister on Pacific Islands, where they have amazing singers)

Sarah is pure quality in everything she does. One of the best Like a Version's ever.

Remember hearing this live on Like a version just days after Bowies death and getting quite emotional. I have watched this clip many times since then and still think its such a great cover version. Lot of emotion, great vocals. Bowie would I think have liked it. So damn good

This honestly remains my favourite like a version to date. It always has this calming effect on me! When I used to work out, at the end of the session I would put this on, do a plank and then stretch and clam my breathing etc before I left and it would make me feel so calm. I love Sarah Blasko. Think she did this cover so so so so well.

Every cover Sarah does is nothing short of amazing. She really is a brilliant singer and musician.

Don't know why, just starting to cry on the chorus every time I hear it. Maybe something is wrong with me, not sure. Great performance, great voice. Always had goosebumps while listening to this song.

Sorry to ask, Alex, but what is the "gold" here. I don' seem to get it. She doesn't have a unique sound, no that great a range, her lyrics are not spectacular(I know this is Bowie). I get that she gives you that kind of intimacy, that you would want from a very good performer, but to me her emotions actually seems a little bit fake in this song. Generally, I think the overall quality is lacking, but I will give her a lot of credit regarding sticking to "the old stuff" where you actually need to have a voice to become a star.

This is too many feels for a Friday. Those notes at the end kill me. Haunting, amazing, beautiful.

2 years on and it still gives me shivers. Beautiful cover

This is what a real Bowie tribute looks like! Still enraptured by this a month later. (Gaga's "homage" was less tribute, more open entry at a Bowie impersonator competition.) Blasko embodied this song and David would have been proud.
