Per narrator around 25 pounds with food and water. A little more during Winter.

The radios most folk carry is the Icom with an extra battery. The communication van carries a charging unit.

I keep seeing leaf bags on sar check lists. Do you have anymore insight of type and usage? I guess they can be used for various tasks but was thinking more about material off and sizing. Regards

What I have used are large Contractor Trash Bags at least 2 MM thick. Others used the Leaf trash bags. I find this bags in the big home improvement stores.

how would you realistically rappel down without a rappel/belay device?

This video does not dive into the technical rescue aspects of SAR. Video is for beginning members to participate without undo burden to finances.

of course, but what i mean is that the video is obviously designed to show equipment that would be useful to search and rescue and in my mind it doesnt make much sense to bring/carry rope, webbing and carabiners, (all meant to enable a short, quick rappel) and then not bring a proper friction device to use to lower yourself.

You can very easily rappel with a carabiner with a munter hitch. Wouldn't hurt to bring an atc or ats though

It is called an Esbit Stove. You can find online, big box sporting stores or military surplus.

Erica Wharton This is a basic pack weighing in at 15 lbs with no water, food or extra clothes. The thought was to keep it light and low budget. Video is aimed at our new members. Thanks for looking.
