I think she should direct Black Widow. she'd put so much more passion into it than the Russo Brothers

Saoirse discusses how the nickname Lady Bird has never been explained as to its origins but I realized tonight it's such a fitting name for the character. Lady Bird desires to fly away and leave the nest and much of the tension in the film between herself and her mother is about her desire for independence, as well as her transition from teenager to adult, hence the word "Lady." By calling herself "Lady Bird" ("Lady" plus "Bird") she is trying to convey to the world that she wants to be seen as an independent, free thinking, creative adult that wants to assert her autonomy and establish her own identity. By giving herself the nickname rather than going by the name she was given by her parents, she is establishing a self-created identity while rejecting her parents' authority. It's very aspirational.

I had to see this movie five time to notice all the details it's incredibly coherent, dense, well done, all the characters have an interesting existence even the least important ones. This movie is about love and care, and to love it we have to care about all the details. The music is 👌

Edit : seeing the movie again. . Some patterns repeat. Lady Bird is in a casual activity = > an emotion builds => the music is replaced by Bruin's music => the mood is destroyed by Marion.

and the ladybird has had her own colour, red. warm colours. always contradiction with the colour of other people's attire except for the very few momemts when she did connect with them, like the nun in that quote scene and her mother and best friend sometimes.

Funny that the 3 “alternative” names that Saoirse Ronan at the beginning of the video, mentioned as examples of alternative names are actually the real names of the singers, Madonna, Beyoncé and Cher are their real names (Cher being short for Cheryl). So, how are they making and alter ego with their own given names? 😅

If Moonlight didn't win last year, Lady Bird would win this year. But given that La La Land lost, The Shape of Water will likely win this year.

The shape of water should win honestly, Lady Bird is good but nowhere near the shape of water or three billboards level. In my opinion Blade Runner 2049 should have been in lady birds spot for best picture the direction, sound, and visuals in that movie was amazing.

Blade Runner 2049 and The Shape of Water were my two best movies of the year (hard to decide though cause Three Billboards was amazing as well if not better than shape of water) but I respect your opinion. Lady Bird wasn't as amazing as you guys are making it seem in my opinion, there was nothing revolutionary about it, just very good minimalist film making carried very elegantly by Saoirse Ronan.

Lady Bird a straight 7/10. Why is this movie rated 99 on Rotten? It's just so boring and monotonous filled with teen angst, superbly overrated. I mean the likes of Godfather is 98, Shawshank is 90, Raging Bull is 94 and Apocalypse Now is 98. Is this a joke or what.

What made you rate it a 7/10 and not like a 3 if it was boring, monotonous filled with teen angst and superbly overrated? I’d change some things about the film if I could but monotonous? Made me cry like 4 times, that mother daughter relationship hit way too deep. I agree with you on the number rating but can’t understand where the 7 comes from in regards to your description.
