Sanur, Bali Beach Breakfast - 2024

We've managed to track down a few hyper-local eateries in Sanur, and this is one of the best! It's a little confusing, because it's known by at least two different names, but the map pin below eliminates any margin for error. Nasi Bali Made Weti* is just yards off the beach, and it caters to a mostly local clientele. It's just an open air shack, where you can order (they only make one thing!) your Nasi Campur and then try and find a table and a chair on the sidewalk. You can order it spicy or mild (go spicy!) and then maybe get an iced tea to go along with it as the perfect accompaniment. Nasi Campur means "rice with whatever the heck we're making that day". In this case, there was a tasty cucumber salad, peanuts, shredded chicken, half a boiled egg, two kinds of sambal, and best all, a chunk or two of deep fried chicken skin! Oy, such gribenes! This is a morning only place, and rumour has it that they sell out before lunch time most days. Get there early, and you won't be disappointed!
*the sign over the warung says Warung Men Weti; Google Maps calls it Nasi Bali Made Weti and the people who first told us about it called it Warung Ibu Weti. Here's the pin:

Perfect ,thank you for this video. We will slot this in on 26th March before we jump on 8.30 am boat to Nusa lembongan for the day. Love these little gem places. As you said....pick the places that have limited menu items. That way you are guaranteed fresh food always as turn around is huge

I think @markwiens has been everywhere first! 😂 Had no idea! We heard about this from a couple of local folks we met, and they were spot on about how good this place was. Loved it!

Hi there! Good question. We’re not subsidized or sponsored in any way, so we look for good mid to lower midrange air b&b or guest houses if we are staying in a place for less than a month. In Vietnam we rented a small basic apartment for a couple of months. In India we rented a whole house for 6 months. We don’t need much in terms of luxury, but as we get older, as long as it’s quiet, the bed is good, and there is AC and wifi then we’re happy! In our younger backpacking days we were not as demanding! 😂. Big hotels are not part of our travel though. We’d rather stay in a local neighborhood where it’s easier to get a feel for a place. Thanks for watching! 🙏

Sanur was nice. Lovely beach, although we don't really hang out at the beach. High percentage of Australian retirees. Like almost all of Bali, everything is geared to foreign tourism. Sanur actually feels a little ore chill that Ubud. Like all tourist towns, if you go off the beaten track and get away from the Starbucks and the Hard Rock Cafes, you can find the places where the local workers live, play, and eat. If you've been to Waikiki, it's vey similar to the main streets in Bali. Almost all tourist related businesses. Yoga clothing. Souvenir shops. Tour packages. Wellness spas. That stuff is pervasive and awful. However, walking down the side streets and seeing the daily flower offerings, small temples, and fruit stalls, you get a glimpse of a very different Bali. The constant is the warmth and gentleness of the people.

Why did you guys leave da nang?

Good question! The main reason is that we could only get a 3 month visa, and we could only stay so long. The other reason is that our plan was never to permanently move to Da Nang, as much as we have grown to love it. We both have artistic pursuits that need attention in Canada. Laurel has tv and film projects and Rob has several concerts booked between March and October with Strange Advance. We’ll be back though!

I think that we missed the joke here. We don’t understand your comment at all. I guess if you have to explain the joke, then it’s not really funny.
