Santisíma Trinidad vs. HMS Victory Epic Line Battle || Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail

Ойындар

Epic 1 v 1 line battle between spanish monster Santisíma Trinidad and british legend HMS Victory. These two ships actually met in the battle of Trafalagar, the Santisíma was captured.
Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail was just released out of the early acces, if you enjoyed naval battles in Empire TW or Napolen TW, you should try this game! Great naval battles, campaigns etc. It is from the makers of Ultimate General: Civil war, which is probably the best RTS game I have ever played. I wish there were more new RTS games!

I feel like Santisma could have made a turn to port early. This would give an opportunity to do a stern rake and control the engagement by being to windward of the Victory. Allowing the victory to close with the wind puts the Santisma at a disadvantage.

Thats not true. Ive been reading for almost a couple hours and nowhere did it say spanish rate of fire is slower than british wtf 😂 it was probably slower at trafalgar since the more a ship is battered, more crew dies/ gets injured, so less rate of fire. La Santísima Trinidad (not santissima trinidad 😅, i just say this since you are so wronged by people saying english instead of british, while at those times we said “los ingleses” and not “los britanicos” to ENGLISH ships) fought 7 ships during trafalgar, not one 74 as you are implying. Its funny how ENGLISH people get so butthurt that Spain actually had the most powerful, biggest and the only 4 deck ship of the line in history, while we dont give a damn. Both countries had the biggest colonial empires this planet has seen at their respective times. We have been allies and enemies so many times, we have humiliated and helped each other too… i just find respect in that, not competition. When I see british and spanish history, I see two countries that literally shaped the world we live in today, more than any other. And that makes me proud, on both sides.

Poor approach angle from the Victory 1 vs 1 better to have run parrallel and fire from a greater distance and allow the better guns and crew to do more damage, the Victory had taken a lot of damage before her guns could be brought to bear. Certainly in the battle of Trafalgar the British on closing took some damage, but once multiple ships broke the Spanish French lines, several British ships could focus on one target at a time.

Video game simulations are ridiculous, but entertaining. Consider that the 104 gun HMS Victory was seriously crippled and narrowly escaped being boarded and captured by the inferior 74 gun French ship Redoutable (nee Suffren) during the Battle of Trafalgar. Had it not been for the 98 gun HMS Temeraire coming to her rescue, HMS Victory would, likely, have been forced to strike her colors. Following the battle HMS Victory was so badly damaged it had to be taken in tow and was subsequently downgraded.

Victory was never in any danger of being captured by any enemy ship at Trafalgar. the two ships were touching, the enemy ship closed its Gunports, the gunners on Victory had to stop firing, because the guns may well have started a fire ON BOTH SHIPS, the attempt to board Victory was repulsed, by the crew of the Victory in less than five minutes, the Temeraire being the next ship in line, of course engaged the enemy ship, what else would it do. As for Victory being badly damaged virtually every ship engaged in this battle had lost their masts, Victory was not the only ship that needed to be taken in tow.

@@siredwardpellew5929 Anglophiles and patriotic Brits simply can't accept that their cherished national symbols and narratives are often built on John Bull's bluster. Nelson's Victory _was_ in as much peril as described and _did_ require assistance from Harvey's Temeraire. Please don't make excuses for her actual hardships just because they don't jibe with your nationalistic chauvinism. No, Victory did not take "focused artillery fire for some 4 hours before she even reached the franco-spanish lines"...lmao...this was _not_ twentieth century warfare with long ranged, rifled naval artillery. Oh dear, you've given me quite a laugh with that silly assertion...hahaha! Factually, it took the two British columns nearly six hours to draw within firing range of the Franco-Spanish line and it was Admiral Collingwood's Royal Sovereign which lead the first column to break that line. Nelson's 100-gun Victory, leading the second column, smashed in between the 80-gun French flagship Bucentaure and 74 gun Redoutable. Her point-blank broadside devastated Bucentaure, but in turn received debilitating fire from both French warships. After the brutal exchange of many broadsides, Victory's gun fell silent and her decks were cleared. Again, had it not been for Harvey's Temeraire, Victory would likely have been captured by the Redoutable's boarding party. Unlike, Nelson's Victory, Harvey's Temeraire engaged the Spanish flagship, 140-gun Santissima Trinidad, while being raked by 80-gun Neptune and the 74-gun Redoutable _before_ maneuvering to rescue Nelson's Victory from near certain capture. Such was the service HMS Temeraire rendered in preventing the capture of Victory that she and her master, Captain Eliab Harvey, were singled out in post-battle dispatches to England. Further, Captain Harvey was subsequently promoted for the bold performance of his ship and crew at Trafalgar.

While RN vessels blocked ports and were on sail for years, allied ships were often blocked in their own ports. Unable to sail and exercise. Thats why britain partially fired 3 times faster than allied ships did. Also RN recruited/conscripted/stole large parts of their crews from merchant vessels, which gave them a basic knowledge and experience about sailing to start with. Pandemics were widespread on both allied and british ships, that was no reason for poor sailorship. One side simply had practice and time to gather experience, one hadnt.

Britain ruled the waves, only a combined franco-spanish fleet could succeed. On their own, both navies would have been crushed in 1v1 against the RN. While britain was always at sea, habing the seas as only barrier between freedom and invasion, and the allies fleets mostly inactive, due to focus on land, britain could easily blockade most allied fleets in harbor. Cadiz, ferrol, brest, toulon, were all blockaded, and with them large parts of their fleets. Now, not every ship of course. During the trafalgar campaign a larger french squadron was located at the west indies, meant to join Villveneuve for the invasion of England. They were more experienced than Villveneuves fleet, but they left Guadeloupe to early and were then immediately blocked in Brest by a large british fleet. A good admiral or general doesnt guarantee you succes. If nelsons crews had been ln franco spanish niveau, Trafalgar had been an allies victory. Ending british naval dominance and maybe leading to England falling to Bonaparte. The very only reason Nelson decided to cross the T, was the high skill of british crews and low skill of allied crews.

God ! even Hollywood at its lowest ebb was more accurate than this ! and some of the replies from children who sit in their bedrooms playing fantasy games knowing less about history as they do about getting a real life.! Google the battle to learn the truth ! try even to read a book ! (small clue , there were more than 2 ships in this battle ),but please don"t confuse a game with real history. the Trinidad did not dismast the Victory and the Victory ended up alongside the Redoutable, wich also struck ! etc. etc. We all like a bit of fantasy with bad graphics but please don"t write inane comments on something that didn"t happen ! respect !

Ha for all of the comments and history buffs the real out come was that she lost, and was captured, and it was a British victory at Trafalgar so you can one on one in a game all you like the outcome in real life and history says otherwise and that can not be changed by any game the real outcome that is.
