@@m42037 unfortunately you are right. I've watched some performances of his in the last 10 years and he lost that explosiveness that I love so much. But I still will always remember him at his Peak around 1970. At that time he was one of the world's best drummers. His style reminds me of Mitch Mitchell's from Jimi Hendrix! and what beautiful form he played with using traditional grip

I was lucky enough to see Santana at Woodstock in '69 and was at the very front fence barrier. The 2 percussionists were directly in front of me. On the film I look like I'm 20 feet from them but the film camera used a very wide angle lense. In reality they were 6 feet from me. Santana's music was so good and being so close to it, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. One of the best experiences of my life.

Watching their Woodstock performance and then immediately after watching this is a great schock. Starting from the audience. I mean, back there in 69, everybody not only listened to the song. They felt and lived it. Nowadays, the poor things hold their smartphones like zombies, unaware of what's really going on, just for the sake of proving to somebody they were there. "And what was it like?" "I held my smartphone like an idiot from the beginning to end. Period."

Mike Shrieve was a transfer to my small ( 400 students) Santa Clara Valley high school back in '66 or '67. He was neither an athelete nor a scholar, so he was not a noticeable person on campus. Then, one day later in the school year, an announcement was made over the school's PA system, that there was to be s short music program on the school's quad during lunch time. Mike played a couple of drum solos during that program. Needless to say, virtually everyone in school knew who he was by the time lunch was over.👍👍👍

Classic Santana.. I remember dancing to this back in the day... wow... A man that changed the face of music and what a time stamp to our lives back then. Wow... Never heard anything like this ever... he was in a league of his own. Malo.. Santana...

This is music history in the making. 🎉 Santana after many years reunites the original band- and it is as if no time has passed. The ecstatic energy once again flows unhindered. The marriage of Afro-Cuban rhythms and percussion to blues based rock and jazz. With Carlos guitar front and center, sending beautiful melodies and dynamic statements as love letters to the universe. Greggs wonderful organ sounds soothing the soul. Michael Shrieve and all of you, we love you forever- eternally. 🕉

One thing I've always appreciated about Santana's music is the use of the and unmistakable sound of the Hammond organ. Always takes me back to the sixties when this was such a big part of our growing up. If a local group was any good at all they had to have a Hammond.
