It’s so funny to me that the intro to this game completely glosses over the fact that Scott Calvin unalived Santa Claus. The coat didn’t just “find” him lmao

I like to imagine that in the first rendition of this game before they released it, there was a cutscene of previous Santa just getting WRECKED, and then some corporate guy had to be like "no we can't include this, do you know how much we'll have to raise the rating for that?"

18:40 I'm not gonna lie, the animation in this game is unreasonably good, considering. The walk cycle has a lot of expression, and it's super fluid, especially for a GBA game. They also made the Santa model actually look like Tim Allen as Santa (check out when he does the coat-parachute thing and look at his face). It's surprisingly solid.
@frknspacewizardbrett6044
2 жыл бұрын
There's even sub-pixel animation, which is where individual pixels shift colour so that is seems like there's movement less than 1 pixel big. You can especially see it on Santa's hat during his idle animation, where the bottom of it shifts between white and black. WAY more effort than they could've gotten away with.

My favourite part about Game Grumps is when Dan is telling a story or speaking about something he's really invested in and Arin is very clearly trying to pay attention but, because all we as the viewers can see is Arin's gameplay, we immediately notice everything that distracts him. It's like we're looking directly into the part of his brain that doesn't care at all about what Dan is saying and is only invested in the game and I find that hilarious.
I read house of leaves my senior year of high school when a friend brought it for me to borrow. I had honestly forgotten about it until Dan mentioned and unlocked a forgotten part of my mind.

What is an “unreliable narrator”? I’ve never heard of that before
@lauramichelle6976
2 жыл бұрын
@@dragonscales2758 it’s a narrator who tells you a story in first person but you can’t trust what they’re saying. A great example is the Girl on the Train. Because our narrator is always drunk she can’t rely on her memory to be accurate. Usually they have ways of twisting the truth in ways that are believable to the reader that don’t feel like outright lies for a twist when you uncover the truth. It can be used in non thrillers too but it’s most common in the thriller horror genre to keep the audience from knowing too much up front while still allowing the protagonist to technically know more (and sometimes can avoid an exposition dump - because they can recover the truth in pieces. But poorly done can also create an exposition dump.)

House of Leaves is such an interesting, genre- and medium-subversive book that I really enjoyed reading and definitely recommend, but my own personal neurosis means the primary thing I remember from it is the repeated use of stuff like "could of" instead of "could've" throughout the whole thing.
on the topic of helping children that are troubled, wasn't coal used to warm homes when the idea of being naughty gets you coal? and this would mean being naughty would be beneficial to your family when you'd need coal the most. I'd also suspect that poor people need the coal more than wealthier families leading me to believe it was a bit more of middle class America trying to instill that poor people are bad
I love how Arin shits on easy games for kids like "ohh this is for babies and I'm gonna beat it". Once he starts getting into it and realizing more mechanics he starts getting pissy and calling it bullshit like most of the games he plays lol.
This feels like a classic episode of Game Grumps and I'm living for it
...this video is taking me back to high school, over ten years ago; between the references to Charlie the Unicorn, and those to House of Leaves (my then-bestie-now-partner and I binged Alan Wake, back then, and Poe's "Haunted" featured in that game...and any time I hear House of Leaves, that song IMMEDIATELY springs to mind, as well as the tidbit about Poe collabing with her brother to reference his book in her song ["Here in November, in this House of Leaves, we'll pray"])... ...thanks for that, guys; especially Dan, because Poe's "Haunted" plays rent-free in one of the corners of my mind, from time to time, and has a bittersweet sense of nostalgia mixed with remorse to it...far more impactful than the weird Tim Allen Christmas films, at least.
Lol I thought the edit over, "This your hell!" was very funny! Great job!🤣🤣 This was funny thanks guys!

Can't believe that Dan is reading House of Leaves. Absolutely loved it. What a fucking weird, bizarre book. So many hidden, creepy aspects of it.
love how the Santa sprite slides down slopes with the "walk like an Egyptian" pose.
Cannot WAIT for the House of Leaves Grump Bump, and can't believe Dan is here in a goddamn Santa Clause 3 game talking about the book that changed my life. House of Leaves is an absolute behemoth of a novel, but it's so worth it. Took me three months to read it the first time in high school a decade ago, and now I own Danielewski's entire published works, met the man twice, constantly wear text-fused apparel from the author's clothing line, and recommend him to everyone I know, on the same level as Sleep No More here in NYC. And then he goes even further and brings up Poe and Haunted, my absolute favorite album of all time. (Their collaborative process between novel and music is really astounding, if anyone wants any stories about it hit me up!) What a wonderful treat. I love these guys.
I was today years old when I found out this had a damn game lmao
Arin: When you work from? Your home is work. And that’s Santa dude. Really makes you think. Wise words from Arin Hanson
Man, this really was the episode that kept of giving. Insofar as it wouldn’t end.
I knew he was gonna say House of Leaves before he said it. My friend bought me a copy which my roommate picked up one day then wouldnt talk about it for days.
Jack Frost: This ought to slow the big man down a bit. *proceeds to send a giant snow ball at Santa, making him rush through the stage much faster. *
Randomly click on an episode and hear we are discussing a) a formative book from my high school years and b) one of my favorite albums from the 90s. Today is a good day. Ps definitely started singing 5 & 1/2 minute hallway as soon as Dan said “do you know Poe?” Man what a time to be alive.
On the subject of siblings doing things together, the best advice I can offer is media. Find something you can both get into, whether that's a genre of music, movies, or books, and then find things to say about it. My sister and I both watched Red vs. Blue, and now I'm very involved in helping her write a fanfiction and flesh out the AU to go with it. So it doesn't surprise me at all that a musically talented sister wrote a soundtrack for her brother's book.
Always appreciate a little christmas jank this time of year
