    I grew up in Santa Fe, (still here 😊). My dad was an artist from Zuni Pueblo. His name is Van Paquin. He realized the talent he had in making a stone into art, and became a full time artist in the 80’s, early 90’s. He participated in the Indian market from 1983-1994. ( He passed in 1995.) He won first place ribbons the majority of those years. He also has a sculpture representing the United States at Buckingham Palace that Princess Ann took back to England. I grew up being an Indian Market kid, lol! 😊❤️

    Not that I know of, maybe if you looked under his name and his information. I’ve done it before but got just a few things, but that was about 7 years ago. You never know there might be something now.

    In that brochure, that " tortoise and the hare piece" is so amazing. They took a thin cabochon and cut it in half lengthwise so that it mirrors itself. That is an amazing piece!!

    I was walking the Santa Fe square 3 weeks ago, we were too early for the Indian Market. I have a pendant with Super X, but I haven't seen any stone like the piece I have. I have been in love with turquoise and Native American jewelry since I was 6 or 7. I love that you talked to the artists, I don't think people realize the work and artistry that goes into creating those pieces. They are worth every dollar they charge. I just subscribed!

    I have never gotten to see anything like this David thank you from the bottom of my feet to the top of my crown for filming this magical place. My family on my mothers side are all dark hair dark skin mostly native and my fathers side also were some dark hair dark skin mostly native yet they bother were whitewashed and had no knowledge of what their heritage was. on my fathers side there were mostly men and only a few of my cousins are women who seem to care more about where we came from and what our ancestors knew... My mothers side however were a bunch of women and my aunt Victoria has a family lineage map showing exactly what tribes we come from... I want to take an ancestry DNA test yet I also don't want to share my DNA I'm so conflicted lol.... Ok i said all that to say this I am so excited to see all these beautiful pieces and honestly it makes me want to work harder and learn more techniques because I make crystal jewelry to sell to wear and I sell it last night I was able to Vend at a local small music event where I sold my very first necklace for $50... I was so proud of it and proud of myself. Now here I am seeing some of the most beautiful hand made pieces I have ever seen in my life. I cannot wait to learn what sort of string or wire I should be using and how to make my own beads... I love you for you and I love you for doing this for all of us out here. Peace Love and may the odds be ever in your favor my friend.

    Could some tell me if the little turtles were only made from natural stonework. Or were they held in place with resin too? I'm asking because I've recently gotten into craft resin & I've seen stones on AliExpress. I wondered if the crushed garnet flakes would work in resin. I doubt I'd ever make anything as wonderful as those turtles though.

    Hi Dave, I watch many of your videos but I usually don't comment. I just want to say that really like above everything you do, the way you offer these hidden nuggets of information that only someone with your experience can provide. An example in this video is the notion that cutting cabs into designer shapes is more lucrative that cutting standard rounds or ovals. I would even guess that goes for squares and rectangles too. I mean would a trapezoid or non-symmetrical angular shape also sell better that a square or rectangle?

  • @lapidarydave

    @lapidarydave

    7 ай бұрын

    Hey my friend, I’m actually going to make a video on this topic sometime soon yes trapezoids are good stuff. I take back a lot what I said about ovals ovals are great sellers because they’re really unisex I mean biker rings are usually oval or square, but having too many is not good a lot of people back in the day just cut ovals and didn’t really do anything else, anyway thank you so much for watching. It really means a lot to me.

    Great video brother! Who is your favorite native lapidary artist right now? I know there is so many top shelf these days but I still got to go with Jesse monyongya. A few years back when I did my first winter market this dude wearing a black cowboy hat strolled up to our booth he checked out one of my rings " yeah my daughter likes these gaudy type pieces,I'll take it" " No prob sir,thank you appreciate it, Anthony Romero ,what's your name ?" " Jesse " " Oh nice to meet you sir , hopefully she will like this ring,it's natural Chinese,I try to stick with domestic myself but hey this stuff kicks butt so I ,yeah , hopefully it's not some kind of blasphemous thing but yeah ,long as it's natural and I like it ,heck I'll use it. You ever done any jewelry yourself?" " Yeah , my booth is right over there around the corner a bit." " Oh nice sir ,didn't catch your name, well your last?" " Monyongya ." " Oh ,wait your Jesse monyongya,thee Jesse monyongya, inlay master in thee flesh?" " Yeah ,that's me." " Oh wow ,what an absolute honor sir,I've been a huge admirer of your work sir , it's really given me so much inspiration and just an absolute huge amount of wow how he do that moments,you ever work with maw sit sit ?" " Oh hell yes !" Just one of them I'll never forget type moments, being an up and comer and just the whole , everything about that experience is something I will never forget,those little things make all those hours of failure so much worth it. he is my favorite and that sale really didn't make him a favorite he just does his thing and I've always liked his designs,just just a whoa wtf experience I hope all up and comers and experience. If you ever want some pseudomorph clams hit me up , Montoya has some killer stuff from carico but it's very pricey. I have some from MM mine they just as good but just don't carry that mystical appeal of the ...lake stuff. Have some high end CL and Damali but I'm just watching that stuff appreciate in value ,maybe one day I'll be good enough to use them in my work but for now I'll just use regular stuff , natural if possible,I'll use stabilized but I don't cut and polish myself. Great video sir,not bragging or anything just sharing a cool story I'll never forget,it really made me wanna do more work and whatnot.
