I've found that fitness counts for a lot. I ride an "enduro" bike as a trail bike and don't have any issue keeping up on the climbs with my riding buddies. However, they definitely struggle to keep me in sight when the trail points down.

@@SteadySpin for your channel? Hard to say at the moment. But I do like how the dynamic of the other channels you show up on changes based on the channel to fit who you are working with and totally fits with how they do their videos. This format that you are doing in this video seems to be quite different than what the rest of the group of mtbs KZreadrs I watch do and is unique to you which is awesome. Seth does his style, bkxc does his style, Syd and macky do their own style, and Bobo throws a frat party. For me this style of yours fits in as it shows your passion for riding, and this one especially reinforces that riding is unique to the rider and the do what works for you outlook on things. I like it. I also like seeing you have your snack food forcefully thrown out and yelled at for having it entertaining as well. But don't do what I like, do what you like for you. One thing I learned from creative endeavors years ago is do what you think is cool, in this world of 7 billion people there ARE other people who will find it cool too. But so far dude, you are fitting awesomely in the pantheon of mtb KZread videos!!

4:59 I definitely agree with you, I plan on do it all bike, my riding involves so much different things on just a normal trail ride, I could use xc, trail, enduro, downhill in one ride, but I can't so I think best choice for me is a trail or enduro bike. I am definitely pushing the 120 bike to the limit, it's just enough to not bottom out I run Cush Core front and back, as it provides great benefits for the front tyre too, which allows me to not having to resort to volume reducers on my fork. it makes a huge difference in cornering too. I think I got most of the things dialed, just need proper frame, and fork, dropper post.

I have done all types of riding from the flat trails of Florida to downhill in North Carolina on my Bronson. It’s a one and done bike. It will take anything you throw at it. Wouldn’t trade it for any other bike.

That seems the best idea for me as well.

The BronsonV3 and the HD4 are 2 of the funnest bikes I have ever rented. I eventually ended up purchasing a Bronson because I like the Primer Gray color, and the frame design was also pleasing to my eyes. My Bronson is set up perfect now (for me). I even prefer the Bronson over the Megatower for Park Days, and I do NOT think I will lose anything if I chose to Enduro Race my Bronson over the Megatower. I rented the Megatower for 2 days from Golden Bike Shop, and for 1 of those days, I even took it to the Ski Lifts at Trestle Bike Park; I then rode my BronsonV3 next day, and found that riding both bikes back to back, that I still prefer my BronsonV3 over the Mega. It was easier to move around, and I felt even plusher (My Bronson has an X2 and 3 tokens; the Mega had the Super Deluxe Ultimate). I have had my Bronson for 14 months now, and still have NOT found 1 bike worthy of replacing my Bronson; though this may change once I demo an HD5 ;-). I also currently own a Ripmo that is also set up pretty nice that I also love (-1.5 angleset, X2 shock), and honestly, and I would still pick the Bronson over the Ripmo if you forced me to choose only 1 bike.

You gotta take this baby out to trestle bike park in winter park Colorado if you ever can. I think that would be an amazing place for the Bronson. There are some really fun flow trails, and then the tech would be perfect. Along with that there is definitely more vert than snowshoe and windrock. I lived In GA and rode windrock every weekend the I moved out to Colorado, and with my experiences from riding trestle, and can say that it is really enjoyable.

I was lucky enough to ride both a Nomad and Bronson through DuPont recently (even ran into you and “the other guy” at the trailhead!). Even as a noob I think I could feel the slightly more “downhill friendly” geo on the Nomad. It puts your weight back while extending out your arms and legs a bit more, while the Bronson had me a bit more compact and upright. If I lived in that area, would consider the Nomad, but as a FL kid, the Bronson probably is better suited for our “mountains”.

What about a longer travel fork on your 50/10? I love your bike

I’m having the same drive train issues as you, I ride a Pivot Mach6 carbon with an X01 drivetrain and just cannot keep it tuned. I’ll tune it and after a ride or two it’s back to gear slipping, this last spring I even took it to my LBS and had them tune on it. They said everything was right but then I go out and still have the slipping issues. I’m not hating on SRAM in the least, I’ve had good stuff from them but for this bike I’m considering going back to Shimano. As far as what you said about plus size wheels and tires I’m also running 2.6’s and absolutely love it.

My 2019 BronsonV3 also have had gear slippage issues which I was fighting for a good 6 months. I eventually got it to disappear by a combination of changing the chainline, and proper technique. . 1) I think the chainline for the BronsonV3 is messed up. I have found that a NON-Boost Chainring seems to get the better chainline and slippage will decrease drastically if NOT completely. 2) Only happens when I am sloppy with shifting while in rolling terrain. It slips when I downshift then upshift too fast before before the gear even catches, then it will slip for a bit before it catches again. 3) On my BronsonV3, I am running 11 Speed XX1 Shifter and Rear Mech. E*thirteen TRS1 Pro Race Cassette, at first I thought it was the cassette because I had the XX1 Shifter and Rear Mech on my 2015 Nomad without issues at all. 4) I know how to adjust my Mechs. I am also sloppy at shifting with my other bikes. I have ran SRAM 11-speed X01 Setup and TRS-cassette on 2 other bikes and do NOT have any slippage issues. I also have XX1 Eagle on my Ripmo, and also no slippage issues on that bike either. 5) Seems SRAM is Drivetrain is very sensitive with cable tension, over time, I have tighten the cables to get proper "chain rest" between the cogs so the chain is not grinding on one side of the cog. If cable is not perfect, I have found slippage to increase. 6) NO MORE SLIPPAGE. I have got the slippage to totally stop now by a combination of using a non-boost chainring, and not being so sloppy with my shifting. I try not to up shift then quickly downshifting (going harder gear then immediately going to the easy gears). Like I said, I have always been a little slopping with my shifting on my other bikes, and never had an issue till I had my 2019 BronsonV3.

So good to hear, thank you for sharing. I will be the first to say I shift like a terrible person. But I have trashed my drive train. On my who knows how many chains, shift cables and 3 derailur. Park days are very tough on bikes.

Well said! It also has a lot to do with the rider. I’ve seen good riders smash s***t on budget low travel bikes. Yes a certain type of geometry helps but it’s not necessary to enjoy any bike on any trail

Kevin - You can save more money, I think, by checking your B-screw adjustment on the rear derailleur. I was having the same troubles as you (with SRAM Eagle X01), until I found the B-screw way out of whack. It’s a two-person job, really. After you ensure that the limit screws are set properly (see Park Tools videos) and the gearing is reasonably indexed, have Seth sit on your bike to the sag set point. Get on the floor with the plastic B-screw gauge from SRAM and adjust accordingly. I found it helpful to color in the curve on the gauge with a black Sharpie... makes it easier to see. Once I set the B-screw properly, it shifts like butter, and only costs a couple of bucks for the gauge. I don’t know why the gauge isn’t included with every new bike or groupo.

That slippage you're talking about is the gap timing of the rear derailleur if it's SRAM, you have to time the gap with rider sag, it's the red plastic gap tool from SRAM, get one. Problem solved. Good luck, don't let the bozo bike shops sell you on more expensive parts.

Hey great video, you are on a size large just curious how tall you are, I am looking at a bronson and I fall right on the overlap between a medium and a large. Also are you really running 35psi in those tires? I run a mix of 20psi in the front and 19psi in the rear with cushcore.

@@SteadySpin I almost got the 5010 because I was worried that the Bronson was too much bike but it handles my most pedally trails just as well as weekend trips to snowshoe.

It seems like a great all around trail bike for sure! I just switched to the Microshift Advent 9 Speed, two rides in and I love it. I'll do a real review when I got a better feel for it, but damn for $115 at my LBS it's the tits.

I ride an All Mountain hardtail, so take my opinion on the issue with many salt grains, but I think I'll be moving to a mid-travel trail bike in a few years when I'm ready to start taking trips to ride out of state more regularly.

Kevin, I've never had cassette issues other than wearing them out. I buy the lightest I can afford. My current Guerilla Gravity has x01 12 speed. I know from experience the sram 11 speed stuff is silly light and shifts great. Why not go down to 11 speed?

@@SteadySpin Kevin, I think that depends. I remember your past as a roadie. As a roadie, cadence is important so having a lot of gears is important. Now with mountain biking I think the answer depends on where you will ride and your fitness. I know Box has an 11 speed and now a 9 speed. I think you could ask Seth and I also think Box could sponsor you too.

I have a nomad and would say it’s even a all around bike. I wouldn’t mind having a bronson just to take the effort of harder pedaling sections down a notch.

One thing with sram 12 speed is it’s almost never perfect. It’s very hard to make it perfect and most people and some shops don’t know how. Also might try checking clutch tension

I'm ready to sell mine, honestly.. It climbs great and is unbelievably planted and stable, but just too sluggish if you're not going mach chicken. Eventually, the harshness and lack of playfulness had me only using it for park and janky DH days. There's so much I love about the bike, but in the end, it didn't suit my riding style for 80% of the trails I ride

Very valid point. Before you sell it maybe try these few things. Tire pressure up and then run only 20% sag. It sounds crazy but it worked great for me once I ran higher pressure. Any jump style stuff I lock out the front a 1/3.

Steady Spin Right. I am coming from a specialized enduro that was super soft and I have grown to love that feeling. Just wasn’t sure if you were experiencing a stiff ride or if there was anything you might recommend to help smooth things out a bit.

The Bronson is a super versatile bike. For shifting, shimano xt is super reliable and crisp and far from the priciest drive train. At least compared to eagle xo1/xx1.

@@SteadySpin I have the 11 speed XT cassette and the gap between 10 and 11 rings is substantial. I came from a Sunrace that was stock on the bike and all 11 rings were evenly spaced. Its almost like the 11 speed XT is/was trying to compete with the newer 12 speed drive trains. Either way, fak it, just ride it!

Hooker is SUCH a fun trail!

I’ve switched from a Bronson 19 to a nomad 19 and with my surprise the nomad climbs better then the Bronson hands down and I’m even running a dual crown fork from mrp that it’s 180mm. Go figure 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ive heard about this before. Someone said if you want a bronson you should just get the nomad and run higher or lower shock pressure to suit your terrain.

Shifting issuees cann be: bent cogs bent chain freehub wobble bent hanger benk cage jockey wheels/pulley wheels having bearings that bind up stiff chain link too much mud and other gunk On my bike: on my bike it's common for me to get issues with the drivetrain, cus the 2014 Fuel EX is too flexy, causing hanger to bend, which eventually will develop a crack, and fail, or fail when truing, bend the cogs, but bent cogs can be fixed with a flat head screw driver, I flex the bike into the tyre so much I get a line all around the sidewall, quite distinctive. But I doubt The Bronson is very flexy, it has beefy swing arm, all the links are beefy. but my bike is a mix of very flexy and very stiff, but not done properly so it's inefficient pedalling, I could go on and on, but for those that want that go look at my review. But I think I have decided on which frame to get, only fork remaining. not ordered it, but Nicilai/Geometron G1 I think. Current bike can't handle me riding it no matter how easy, I will keep bending hanger, and Trek Norway won't help me, at least those ppl that dealt with my case.

As a Nomad 4 and 5010 owner myself, I can appreciate the Bronson for people who want a single bike to do it all. What I can comprehend is someone even mentioning that the Bronson would be tough during climbs. My Nomad climbs great. Does the 5010 climb a little better, yeah, but I've ridden big travel enduro bikes on uphill climbs that kinda suck. Its all about the setup. I.E. If I'm trail riding my Nomad 4 I adjust the VPP link, set my tire pressures different, rebound changes, compression, etc...

The front wheel is 29 on all the new models
