Santa Cruz Bronson 2022 Review

Спорт

For some time now I've been chomping at the bit and anxiously awaiting the arrival of trail bikes that were completely designed around a dedicated mixed wheel (29" front / 27.5" rear) format. At long last, one managed to find its way into my hands for testing. What we're talking about is the new Santa Cruz Bronson - a bike I've been spending time on for the last few months, serving as a do-it-all bike for every day trail rides as well as park laps. Aside from the whole mullet thing, there are a slew of other very interesting updates found on the bike - so much so that it's safe to claim that Santa Cruz is taking some aspects in a different direction, which is a good thing...

    *Great frame and lightweight. **Latest.Bike** components were well adjusted out of the box. Great entry level bike for light off road use.*

    Great review. I love your channel. A while back I saw a review of the Braking Incas in the MTB Mag channel in italian. I understood about 3 words... but those are the best brakes I have tried. Maybe a review by you guys would be cool.

    Good point. We asked Braking and they are going to send a set of brakes to Ian for a review.

    Love the honesty with this review and all the reviews you do. I'm writing this 7 months after buying one... I had a V4 5010 in S build with Reserve wheels and DT Swiss Hubs and loved it as a big fan of 27.5/650B wheels but was starting to get pretty beat up with the riding I was doing. So I traded it in at the company who I bought it from after just 9 months and bought a Custom build Bronson CC MX RSV XO1 AXS with i9 Hydra Hubs Code RSC's and a Fox Factory 36's & Fox Factory Dropper in Moss Gloss and I absolutely LOVE IT. I'm running Maxxis DHR rear and Maxxis Assegai front as I'd asked for. No doubt about it they are expensive but that said It's my only bike and I ride it all the time at Bike Parks and just about everywhere that I can. I live in England in the UK and am off to the French Alps in the summer with it. Keep up the good work Ian! Many thanks, Sam.

    Great review. I currently have a 2019 CC X01 Branson and am looking to upgrade it. Most of my mates have Hightowers - what is your thought on the 2022 Bronson vs 2022 Hightower?

  • @mtb-mag

    @mtb-mag

    Hmmm. I think the Bronson will lean a little more toward the "Fun" side of the spectrum and the Hightower a little closer to the "Business" end of things.

    This video is the main reason I bought one 3 weeks ago. At 95kg I had so much struggle with the V3 suspension. The V4 is phantastic. I love it. Thanks!

    Interested to know how tall you are and your fit on the large? I'm about 178cm which puts me bang in the middle of the medium & large sizes..trying to decide which one to go for without the opportunity for a test ride is tough.

  • @mtb-mag

    @mtb-mag

    Hey...Right around 183cm, so a Large was pretty spot on. Could have maybe bumped up to a 50mm stem and stretched out a touch more. Unless you like your bikes on the small side, I'd go with the Large.

  • @RubyAddyChannel

    Can I check with you. Im 155cm and currently buying small size but estimated shift got another delay of 4months. They said they already have an xs bronson available anytime. Should I consider getting it or wait for the small size.

    That's a bit hard to gauge as I rode a size Large. I would say that within that sizing it fit pretty true to size...Maybe ever so slightly small.

    @@mtb-mag i fell in love once I got it dialed in. Make sure to add 20% more psi though or you’ll bounce all over when pedaling through gnar. Makes it more buttery over small stuff while providing more resistance to compression in the mid stroke which you notice when compressing to jump or in turns and on landings in not blowing through travel as much. Whereas usually you have to give up one of these things to get the other- with Megneg you get both. Really helped the V3 become the bike it was meant to be. I think they tweaked the curve on V4 as you mentioned, but I still think it would add improvement. I was about 220 lbs when I added it, down to about 200 now. I Like it at both weights.

    Hey there, you said megatower has pretty slack seattube angle, but in paper are almost the same with this new bronson according to santa cruz website. So i think, this review is more like you feeling of the bike and not actual geometry. As i said, if you compare both geo, are almost the same in Avery aspect, including pedaling position drive by seattube angle.

  • @mtb-mag

    @mtb-mag

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey! Ian here - so, when it comes to the effective seat tube angle, you're right...there isn't a massive difference between the two bikes. With that said, SCB doesn't list the actual STA #'s and I'm guessing that MT is quite a bit slacker than Bronson. Given that I have long legs and run a very high saddle, the Megatower likely *feels much more slack.

    Anyone know how it stacks up against the Stumpy Evo mullet? I'm assuming a more supportive and slightly better climbing/pedaling suspension platform???
