    I've had nearly every version of the 5010 and it just keeps getting better. The newest took a little getting used to since among everything else mentioned in the review the new 5010 comes with shorter cranks (170mm now vs. 175mm on previous versions); easy enough to adapt. Overall, it is only slightly more sluggish on the big climbs than previous versions, but it is more predictable and less twitchy on the way down, the switch in tires up front does give it more traction, and I don't even bother to lock out the rear suspension as much as I used to. So far this one puts the biggest smile on my face.

    Wow Mike I think you are the right person to answer a question I have, I own a custom built 5010c V2, with a fox 34 performance elite 140mm fork, 170mm crank arms, 1x12 deore xt drivetrain, should I think to upgrade at least the frame? The new version is that good?

  • @miketatara2025

    @miketatara2025

    @@DavidCharpentierBuzano Hey David, that's a tough question to answer, but I'll try... First, economically, in my experience it's easier to sell a complete bike, (especially now, I just sold my v2 for well over half of what I'd paid for it), second I would say depends on the condition of what you have, what you think you could get for it, and how much you like it. I started out with the 5010 because I wanted something that climbed well, but could still ride aggressively elsewhere. When my son started riding I bought v3 for me, same build CC, X01... most of the changes there were subtle, full internal cable routing, flip chip, and a slight tweak to the geometry, which helped it track slightly better at speed on the way down. Now, I was perfectly happy with v2, v3...but because I was starting to attack some of the fun stuff more aggressively I thought it might be good to have just a bit more travel (that and I'd ridden a friend's Bronson and liked the feel of the lower linkage). So because I knew I could get a good price for the v2 I was able to justify v4. That's me, bikes are my thing and I have a wife who doesn't mind if I splurge... and I like changing things up every couple of years. Now back to you... How much will you have to invest in keeping the current bike tip/top e.g. suspension services, dropper post services, etc. If that is all manageable, or you do your own work and really like what you have based on your current riding, you probably don't need to do a thing. However, if things are starting to get long in the tooth and you're going to have to spend a bunch of money on upkeep to enjoy the current bike, it might be a good time to upgrade, especially if you think you'll enjoy the nuanced improvements to ride characteristics, and aesthetics. One more point, I like the Fox fork and was nervous about the Pike because it didn't have a lock out, but it turns out I like the Pike better because I find it more fine-tunable and plush with nice bottom out resistance. Anyway, a very long answer, but I hope it helps you somewhat. Good luck.

    I had the chance to demo the previous version and this one side by side. Both cc models and X01, RS Super D and Pike Ultimate setup. Honestly, I like the V3 over the current model. It felt lighter, and much more active on the trails. The newer one felt more stable especially on descents, but for some reason it had a heft to it. Almost like riding a Bronson. And for jumping, the V3 hands down. I know it boils down to riding style, and I like having fun and playing around with jumps, manuals, drops, etc. I guess if I were to race this bike I’d go with the latest model, but for racing, 29” bike would perform better.

    V3 is much lighter and still very progressive. I snapped a v2 bronson and put all of the parts on my v3 except the shock. The bike with carbon bars and crank, xt 1x11, 36 fork, ex511s with i9s went from 28.5 to 31. Same with the new 5010. Not that the new version isn't great but that weight is noticeable. Climbing is more efficient but who is buying a 5010 for climbing. Both are perfectly sufficient in that aspect anyway. Its a trail BMX bike.

  • @eastcoastcruisin4071

    @eastcoastcruisin4071

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you are looking for an enduro bike you should be looking at the 29er options, most enduro bikes will be described as planted, and stable not poppy or nimble. The 5010 would not make a good enduro bike it is a lively trail bike the Bronson would be a good enduro bike especially considering the MX wheel sizing and the Nomad would be a more playful/freeride bike that is good for jumps and technical descents. For racing purposes you should look into 29ers because of the higher top speed and better rollover the 27.5 setup will be limiting.

    For the Megatower, Hightower and in some instances the Tallboy, a lot of dudes get the Juliana equivalents for it’s lighter more plush shock tune. I’ve never been a fan of VPP but I’ve always like Julianas color options better. I ride a medium so I would fit. After this review, I’m interested in giving the Furtado a go regardless of who it is intended. I build up my own bikes so I don’t really care about spec.

    No, for the sake that some bikes are better than others and there should be a baseline. If there are ten $7,000 bikes-I’m sure 1 bike will be better or worse than another 1 of the bikes. I like Santa Cruz and sure this is a stellar bike but every review they do...it’s all the same. But, in the year 2020, bikes deserve social justice as well, eh? BLM-Bikes Lives Matter!
