8 out of 9 snares go to UNT, and 7 of those were the PASIC winning UNT Snare ensemble this past fall. (The only non-UNT snare is the girl on the end.) Just crazy consistent technique across that line. Not sure how many of the rest of them are from UNT.

I love that Rennick keeps the unison impacts in the players’ back pocket until the last possible moment. There’s almost a symbiotic relationship between drum 4 on quads & bass 5. I love those hammered beats without “giving it all up” unnecessarily, it comes across with a totally unique quality.

As an SCV alum, I'm biased...but jeez. Wow. I always see them this time of the year (there were 2 shows at this venue--Walnut, CA--I caught the 2nd one), and I don't remember them ever being this clean. (Apple to apples--I'm talking about warm ups, not on the field.) I think the snares and tenors are one of, if not THE best that Rennick has had at SCV. Especially the tenor line. I have the same concern about them peaking too soon. I also worry that they're ranked 8th in DCI right now, and the overall corps won't rank high enough for them to win drums (if that doesn't improve). But still--I'd rather have them playing this well than not :) Thanks guys! P.S. FYI--Paul and Sandy Rennick were both inducted into the SCV Hall Of Fame this past weekend...joining Fred Sanford and Ralph Hardimon (among other great SCV drum staff over the years).

Drumline is cranking same with Front ensemble. They are being pretty smart about wanting to peak at the right time but they also have that pressure of being the Vanguard percussion force. Already they sound much better since the first show. Fun fact is how much they spend on fundamentals and tracking during subs.

I truly don’t believe that judges will base a groups current status off of what they may or may not have accomplished previously. If vanguard percussion is good enough to win, they’ll win. I think that was proven last year with Cavies and with Phantom in 2010. Can it be harder if the overall corps is less successful? Definitely. But that’s also part of game.
