Sansa Stark and Sandor Clegane analysis

Ойын-сауық

Mother and Horse archetypes and their reflection in fiction spans all kinds of genres. I decided to explain their characteristics on the example of Sandor and Sansa from Game of Thrones (books only). Enjoy!
I wanted to include the Wild Marriage myth analysis, but it was getting too long. I'll discuss it in more general terms in a separate video, giving examples from various works of fiction.

When I hear all this I wonder: does GRRM write these archetypical figures consciously, knowing their deeper meaning before he creates text, or is it just the unconsciousness finding it's way to a real world.

I personally don't think he does so consciously. Most of the greatest writers throughout history weren't consciously aware of what they were producing (in regards to archetypal channeling), and that makes it even more fascinating.

I absolutely LOVE your videos, I would like to see a compare and contrast between Arya and Sansa- as I think that you would bring a deeper understanding as to the complexity between these sisters. Perhaps another between Robb Stark and Jon Snow as well.

I'm amazed by the way you so elegantly put into words these otherwise obscured ideas, that too in such a soothing tone! I'm new to your content, but don't think I'll ever be old for it!

This is one of the best analyses of Sansa's character I have seen. Most attempts to psychoanalyze her try to treat Sansa as if she were a real person, as opposed to a literary character. Sansa's archetype is Persephone--the sweet, obedient maiden who is abducted into the underworld and raped by Hades. Sandor is her Hades man--without the actual rape. He seemingly oppresses her with his brutality and ugliness, but he also shows Sansa how to find her way around the underworld and, eventually, out of it. Persephone becomes queen of the underworld, and spends half the year--spring and summer--above ground. This is how she attains womanhood: by mastering the oppositions of light and dark, birth and death, summer and winter. Along with Ceresi, the other mother figures are Daenarys (mother of dragons), and Sansa's own mother, Catelyn. Catelyn's arc is her transformation from the mother to the crone. The other crones are Olenna Tyrell, the hedge witch of Bald Hill, and Old Nan.

Thank you so much! Who knows? Perhaps someday in the future! :) My channel is tiny at the moment, though, so I think I have a lot to work on first. I'm returning to videos about fiction again soon, and there'll certainly be many more videos about GoT. Stay put! :)

do you think the "unkiss" might suggest that sansa feels (unconsciously) sexually attracted to sandor? grrm said in an interview that this imaginary kiss is a detail that will mean sth in future books and I'm trying to understand what this might be haha. what is your interpretation of this kiss sansa imagined?
