Only one time in the story Sanji showed off his sword skills that he learns as a kid is when he was on the train in Water 7 using kitchen knives fighting the ramen kenpo chef

Also... Theres a moment at the beginning of one piece we're Sanji is asked how he ended in the east blue if he was born in the North blue xd. But something happens and he doesnt answer

The funny thing is, if the trees and bushes etc kept rearranging themselves to make Zoro get lost, he'd probably keep veering off in a direction that didnt make sense and instead of being steered in circles he probably WOULD just end up finding his way out.

@@jermfb I am pretty sure sanji saying they would want him more eventually isn't foreshadowing... he had no reason to believe the government would want a son of the germa more than luffy... after all at this point the germa ARE working with the world...

10:58 Apparently yes, Oda already had Sanji's past planned since then. There is a series of notebooks known as "THE ONE PIECE BIBLE" and they are drafts and notes that Oda had for the show. In an oversight, one of Oda's editors left one of the notebooks in a taxi and a fan found it. In it, there were notes from the Whole Cake and Wano arc, ideas that he had for the plot. Some stayed, like Sanji turning out to be a prince, and others changed. The most curious thing is that this little incident happened when the anime was just reaching the Marine Ford saga. So yeah, he thought about that a lot before he got to this point.

The inspiration Disney's Alice in Wonderland had over Whole Cake is pretty obvious. I also wonder if Oda saw the 4kids censorship and the mirror Sanju chomping on a lollipop is a joke reference or if it's just a coincidence.

The theme of this arc is "Family". Ever since you first displayed heightened emotional investment when it came to child-parent stuff, I've waited for the day you'd react to this arc.

Relationship between Sanji and his father was slightly foreshadowed when Montblanc Cricket was telling his story about Noland before crew arrived at Skypea

It is Chopper. But in their defense, Chopper's VA was Young Sanji's VA before Chopper's introduction. If they did get lazy with casting it was probably because they didn't think they'd need Young Sanji again, so they got her Chopper's role. Also why Kazuki Yao got to play Franky, they probably didn't think Jango would come up again. So yeah, Pikachu, Chopper and Sanji have Ikue Ōtani in common.

Idk if you can say the Sanji is actively handicapping himself for not using his hands. Thats how he's always fought. He has skills in kicking, not punching. Its really that simple. The one time he "uses his hands" he has kitchen knives and he cuts up the ramen guy's noodles suit. Plus, kicks just realitically hit harder than punches. He's got his style, and sticking to it works best for him.

Yeah after I heard ruffsenpai was a father I knew sanji's true backstory would hurt like hell, before whole cake island I was a zoro fan but after I began to prefer Sanji mainly for the backstory and emotion he shows in this arc

Idk if anyone had told you or you've notice yet, but Sanji is called Sanji because he is the 3rd born to the throne! His name literally means 3 😂 Ichi, Ni, San, Yon. Is 1,2,3,4 in Japanese. Which is also the start of all their names 🤙

Remember when Sanji used knives in the Sea Train during Enies Lobby arc? Well now you know why he's good at it. He was taught swordsmanship!

No its not sanji at least found someone he loved and got loved back as a kid robin was much worst her whole life on the run betrayed and everyone she knew and loved literally died in front of her Brook lost his whole damn crew everyone he hold dear to him and then was forced to wander the sea for many many years alone going insane all alone isolation can be the most painful thing in the world if u must know There's no full back story for ussop and zoro yet we know nothing abt zoro parents what went in his life how he grew up nor ussop much as of now brook and robin back story is the most tragic

This arc is meant as a direct mirror to both enies lobby and thriller bark The main difference being that thriller bark seemed like a horror arc on the surface but was actually a breather comedy arc underneath And Whole Cake seemingly looking whimsical and fun and then being the true Horror show

I always made fun of Sanji for his fighting style because his whole thing is that he doesn't use his hands because he wants to keep them pristine for cooking, but he does use his hands when fighting. By putting them on the floor/ground so he can spin around and kick people in the face. You know the ground, right? Generally the dirtiest place readily available at any time. Still though, it's great to see more Straw Hat backstories. Before this arc, I considered Sanji to have one of the least tragic backstories, but afterwards I put him right up there with Brooke. Can't wait to see you react to the rest of it.

Okay, but I did kinda lose it when he mistook a young Ichiji for Reiju. That one was a first 🤣

Watching Sanji's brothers makes me wish more that Zoro is there with Sanji. Would have been epic to see Zoro standing up with Sanji like a real brother or backing him up against his bio brothers. Would have loved to see the faces of the brothers realizing how strong the duos are.. or better yet, include Luffy as well. The three motherf*cker Germa bros vs. The Monster Trio of the Strawhats. There are manga longer than One Piece. Anime, even older anime, typically don't last as long. There are series like Sazae-san and Doraemon though, episodic shows for little kids, that have been around longer than One Piece. Even the manga that are longer than One Piece are usually episodic, like Cooking Papa or Golgo 13. Jojo has been around longer than One Piece if you want to include all of its parts as one thing. And there's some series like Glass Mask that have been around longer but have been on hiatus for a long time too. One Piece is not only long but it's not episodic to the same degree and it has never been on any extended hiatuses (though for a while now it hasn't been entirely weekly, though the anime has, and manages it through adaption a small number of chapters and filler).

That one scene in this arc is going to break ruff, we all know which one it is

The woods get a little crazier once encountering Pound, a giant head sticking out the ground asking for apple juice, the group are jumped however by one of Big Mom's soldiers, Randolph, on top of that, the woods are moving, keeping them trapped and disoriented: such is the purpose of the Seducing Woods. Ah you see, Thriller Bark was Scooby Doo horror, this is Brother's Grimm horror. Trauma has come for Sanji though, as his home reminds him of his childhood, abused and bullied by his three other twin brothers as his father, Vinsmoke Judge, did nothing. The first encounter is heated, already boiling over into a fight. In the group's escape from Randolph, they have a new problem, the Luffy that followed them is not the right one. The fake Luffy is the work of another of Big Mom's children, the eighth daughter, Charlotte Brulee The battle between Sanji and Judge is brief, there's a clear skill gap which Judge attempts to make up for with cybernetic augmentation, however it's his willingness to sacrifice his men that throws Sanji off balance to be suckered into defeat. To make things worse, he's then given explosive cuffs, meaning he will risk his hands if he tries to leave. Young Sanji is voiced by Chopper/Pikachu's VA Ikue Otani yes. The real Luffy's going through some mental gymnastics right now too, after encountering Pound himself, he ends up seeing many of Brulee's copies of other crewmates, Carrot and Pudding.
