This is the best video I’ve seen explaining how to do this. I have a short haired rescue cat with a very fluffy bum who has been having really bad carrier issues, so I am so glad to learn how to trim her up a little!!!!

Very informative. It would never work with me Norwegian forest cat. His belly and backside are NO TOUCH ZONES. He would no doubt be your greatest challenge. Even with his calming treats and two people.

Thank you Stacey for sharing this technique. I can afford to get my kitty groomed professionally twice a year - however a sanitary clip I can do in between times so this was a valuable thing to be able to do with my newly bought light weight clippers just for the little grooming jobs.

Hi, I don't know if you read the comments here, but thank you so much for this video! I have a fluffy boy who ends up needing baths if his rear end fur isn't maintained. While he doesn't like sanitary trims, baths are definitely worse for both of us. This is one of the only videos I've found showing technique for one person to get this job done (instead of having a 2 person team). So thanks for helping me an my kitty!

I have a mainecoon. He would never ever let me do this. he freaks if you go anywhere near his bottom parts or any other parts. He has got so much knotted matted fur I don't know what to do anymore. I wish he would be calm enough so I could try this method because it looks pretty easy once you get used to it. This cat knows when I am up to no good and he will hide. He knows when I have flea drops and not even in sight! lol. He's a very tough cat to hold still. And his butt DOES smell ick. Hopefully i can try this with help from someone else to hold him. You did it so quick and easy!

A Wahl Bravura set to the 10 position. It's my favorite clipper with cats. It's quiet, lightweight, and clips the coat quick and easy.

It's really helpful. If you can't find a cat groomer to help you, most veterinarians will offer this service sans bath.

Very nice video, I have a Russian Siberian neutered male and he is always having issues with getting poop stuck on his butt cheek fur. I need to do this for him with out having to have him shaved completely as I love his fluffy fur and long fluffy tail 😁 I need to find some clippers like yours, They sounded very quiet! 😲

I have 2 Ragdolls, 1 Norwegian Forest & 1 domestic shorthair. The Norwegian doesn't like to be brushed, he's our sensitive boy. The Ragdolls love to be brushed but the more I do, the more matted they get. If I don't brush them their coats are gorgeous but I have tumblefur rolling all everywhere. All 3 long hairs get sanitary clips but they're fussy. I came across your video while researching new clippers. Great advice but where do you keep your clippers that they have gotten so wretched looking?

What rechargeable clippers are you using? They are nice and quiet. Also, what number comb for removing mats and this type of trimming. Thanks! Love the quality of these videos. I adopted a 4 yr old Ragdoll/Himmy that is matted on the chest and am trying to decide how best to approach it.

Congratulations on your new family member! Thank you for positive, kind words. I'm happy to hear you enjoy my videos. I use the Wahl Bravura pet trimmer with the blade on the 10 setting. This works for trimming and mat removal. It's most important to remember to keep the skin taut to avoid wrinkles and folds when clipping.

are you actually running the blade lightly over his man parts ? I'm a dog groomer and want to shave my cats sanitary but I have female just wondering if it's a lot different. thanks !

It's a liver paste made by Kong. I offer a variety of treats to see what each cat prefers. Some like bonita flakes, others crunchy chicken (I'm using Halo right now), or turkey & salmon jerky (Wellness), or freeze-dried chicken. I always give a sprinkle of catnip, too. All with the cat guardian's permission, of course.

Adopt one? Adoption is from a shelter and you will never find one at a shelter.

Hello! Not sure if you still check comments here, but I recently had to buy a trimmer for my long hair as my local cat groomer stopped taking appointments. My long hair cat has lots of bum hair and sometimes poop gets caught on it. I bought the same trimmer as you but cannot find the #10 position talked about here and in other videos. The blade shows 5 settings from 3mm to 0.7mm. could you share which might be the proper setting? Thank you.

It's all taken care of. OUr vet won't do it anymore, so I took care of it.

My main coon was in the room while I was watching this and I think he knows what I might be doing later he is a pretty rowdy cat and hates to have his tail messed with I may take him to a professional instead of attempting to do it myself I wish I could take him to you where are you located

Wow, what a great compliment. Thank you! Veterinarians just need more training on feline behavior and compassionate handling. The AAFP (catvets dot org) has established great guidelines to help vet clinics become feline friendly. Cats understand our tone and intentions for sure! I like the Wahl stainless steel comb attachments. Cat fur needs to be clean and dry to get a good clip with a snap-on. Greasy, dirty coats and clippers are not a good combination.

I did the longest part with scissors. What type of trimmer do you use? the same to shave and trim beards?

A human trimmer isn't ideal. I use a Wahl Bravura pet trimmer with the blade set to 10. Be extra cautious when using scissors to trim cat hair. Cat skin is loosely attached and easily cut. Trust me, I've seen A LOT of unintentional scissor injuries from well-meaning caregivers. No offense intended if you're proficient at scissor work with cats.

Your approach should be bottled & sold. Cats let you do things that VETS cannot. They know you love them. I noticed with mine, it goes better if I tell them what I'm going to do & why first. I don't know if they understand, but they seem to have more patience when I do. I did want to ask about using a comb w/your clipper. I thought that was safer (esp. in such a sensitive area).? They never work well for me. I only do my own dogs/cats, but I can never get fur trimmed w/comb on. Any tips?

Exactly!! The comb/guard just keeps clogging up with every pass! Better to do it gently without a guard…
