oh sweet! The exact video i've been looking for :) Always wanted to know how to replace the battery on my MMR-99 since that will sadly be necessary soon enough as it is my daily driver radio.

The sangean 88 definitely has a smaller battery and can be replaced in seconds.

true! only the 88 series are not IP55 certified, that could be the reason they made an internal battery on the 99 series.

A shame they used an 18650 with a lead on it (non common and harder to upgrade)

Actually is very easy to upgrade if you know what you are doing. You have two battery choices, 1. High quality 18650 type 3450 mAh with soldering tabs 1. High quality 21700 type 5000 mAh with soldering tabs but you need to do a little mod to fit as this battery is bigger.

That’s crazy , quality Radio but extremely difficult battery replacement , why not just put in the obvious, a battery compartment

Hello again! Thanks for the information. Another question: In terms of the voltage and amps, what is the strongest power bank do you recommend to power and charge the mmr-99? Thanks!

It needs a 5V USB-C input with 1A to charge. You can use any powerbank that has this as minimum. More amps doesnt harm the MMR-99, but it won't charge any quicker.

Nicely done, but why would anyone buy this in 2023/2024 with a battery that requires this much disassembly to replace. I sure won't.

Considering this is a $200 radio in Australia, the battery is the reason I will not buy this radio.

Just wait for the successor model that hopefully has a easier battery access. I really hope Sangean learns from this. They did it right with the MMR-88 but the battery there was too low capacity. I wish it would just take AA batteries. Easier to get rechargeables for it and also use Alkalines.

@@KRAFTWERK2K6Alkaline backup option would be great, but would rather have replaceable 18650’s (2 would be nice) as primary source. These batteries are more robust than rechargeable AA batteries, in my experience.
