Melkanakkû = Mel [top/upper] + kanakkû [count/account] (the û is ardha u-kara/schwa) Kīlkanakkû (kīzh) = kīzh [down/lower] + kanakkû Aham (akam/agam - Tamil alphabets don't distinguish between k,g,h) [in] Puram (r is retroflex r) [out] Also rr is pronounced either "tr" ( retroflex t and r) or "tt"(British pronounciation of t in tomorrow) Thiru/Tiru is equivalent to "Sri" and can be seen even in names of towns and cities Thiru+Ananta+puram = Thiruvananthapuram.
