Fred says "It only takes y'all a few minutes, it takes us three days in the waiting room" Every time I hear him say that I almost die, because I know exactly what he's talking about. You can go in the morning and don't get out till damn near night if you go to one of the clinics in the hood.

You're right -- he's damn good. I've seen him in a lot of stuff too from back in the day. He deserves a lot of credit here for the way he memorized and delivered those deadpan, long-winded, machine gun lines with a straight face -- especially the lines that required translation by his partner.

Half of what makes it so funny is the comedic timing! 😂
In this same episode, Swannie asks Fred does he need to go to doctor to get checked out. Fred says " no I'm alright, I can't waste three days". Swannie say's "It'll only take you a few minutes". Fred says "It only takes y'all a few minutes, it takes us three days in the waiting room" Every time I hear him say that I almost die, because I know exactly what he's talking about. You can go in the morning and don't get out till damn near night if you go to one of the clinics in the hood.

the white officer was Noam pitlik . a great character actor, turned director, that stared in such tv show as hogans heros, bewitched, barney miller to name a few.

You're right -- he's damn good. I've seen him in a lot of stuff too from back in the day. He deserves a lot of credit here for the way he memorized and delivered those deadpan, long-winded, machine gun lines with a straight face -- especially the lines that required translation by his partner.
Noam Pitlik was a great actor who had a long career he could do comedy or drama. Redd Foxx was also brilliant.

Mr. Pitlik went on to direct a few episodes of Barney Miller.

Swanny, Smitty's original partner before Hoppy.
RF was a GENIUS! Unmatched!!
“Were they colored?” “Ya, white” 🤣😂🤣😂
Bring back those real people times. All in the Family too. No more political correctness. No violence or threats but call people as you see them.
That translation is the funniest stuff I've ever seen on TV.
Redd foxx was a genious right up there with chaplin, keaton, laurel and hardy and Abbott and costello were pretty good too!!! And you can't leave red skelton out of this group either bottom line is they don't make comedy like they use too that's for sure!!! But Sanford and son is on level all by itself!!! Gods speed to all of them thanks for the laughs I'm sure their enjoying the after life with the almihhty!!!!!!!!!!
Fred G. Sanford rocks! Especially his infatuation with Lena the Horne!
The best scenes were of Fred and Esther flaming each other... 'Fred Sanford...... Yooooou a Heathen'.

Sanford and son was based on the British sitcom Steptoe and son and this episode was adapted from the steptoe series 6 episode “robbery with violence”.
