Apparently the entire cast used to bust out in laughter all the time due to the funny and ridiculous stuff they had to say and do throughout the course of the show.

Grady: Stick and Stones can break my bones but names may never hurt me. Esther: Okay I'll get some sticks and stones and break your bones and the name hurt you would be Esther. Lol

Just imagine actually knowing a church woman who was very similar to her. We had one at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Columbus Ohio. She was strong and bossy, carried her Bible everywhere and kept a hat on her head ALL the time.

When Fred was away to St Louis Grady really held his own for those episodes when Fred was away Grady all right with me

Esther WAS the star. No Emmy nomination? Why not?

Grady is very underrated,took the scene when he was in them.

😆 I love the plain no nonsense way of thinking Grady had. We need more TV like this today.

This is a classic show and nobody can play Esther and Grady will make you laugh too.

This is my favorite episode on Sandford and son. Esther would go toe to toe with every man that came her way! Talking about put someone in there place!

My two favorite Grady in charge episodes is this one, and when he mistakenly receives the two Social Security checks.

This and "All in The Family" were the best shows on TV.

Ironically, the highest rated episode of this all-time great sitcom was one with Grady as the star, not with Fred, who was out due to his contract dispute with NBC. It was the episode where Ron Glass guest starred as Lamont’s friend Herman who had visited the Sanford home after getting out of jail.

Redd Foxx demanded more money. The producers said 'no.' He refused to return to the show. He was gone for a few weeks or months (I forgot which). He returned when the situation was resolved. While he was gone Grady (Whitman Mayo) stayed at the house. Basically, filling in.
