My favorite part of this conversation was when Sandra asked Hoyeon about her well-being and what she does to take care of herself. Her wanting to "relieve" Hoyeon of the pressure and responsibility as an emerging Asian talent was refreshing to see. Sandra is the perfect mentor (and "sunbaenim" figure) for Hoyeon and her growth mentality - wishing continued success for them both as a fellow Korean-American!
I love how hoyeon articulates her opinions, she has such a comforting yet mature way of speaking, much admiration for her and for the great sandra oh
Ho-Yeon is such a bombshell. And her English is getting so good, there is no way that an American actor could be as fluent in Korean as she is in English. And I could feel her pain in the bathroom scene, she's an incredible actress.

Hoyeon had me tearing up. I feel like she was saying modeling is more cold hearted as you are essentially just displaying clothes, you may not want your facial expression to distract from what you are modeling. She became interested in acting to be able to FEEL and express and understand human emotions 😭😭😭
Sandra's mind amazes me in every way possible. she's literally everything.
The fact that Squid Game was her first lead role and she became famous immediately.
Two whole ICONS. They're the type of "famous ppl" who you'd actually want to hang out with. Down to earth, kind, intelligent... ugh I love them
Jung Ho-Yeon is sweet and clearly very talented. I wish great things for her and her career.

Jung Ho-Yeon is a beautiful, incredibly smart and talented actress. She is Coming and we all can’t wait.
I am so happy that Hoyeon now has this amazing Sunbae to lean on. Sandra is such a great role model. It is not only hard to be a young actor in the industry, but being immersed into a completely different culture and language all at once like this, while being watched by the entire world, I cant even imagine the amount of pressure. Can't wait to see Hoyeon continue to grow and Sandra continue paving the way. This was so insightful, I loved the conversation around how native Koreans see Korean-Americans. It is so interesting to hear Hoyeon expressing her concern of not feeling 'allowed' to represent because she didnt have the same experience, and loved how Sandra just lifted that weight off of her. As a Korean descendant myself, walking into the airport in my home state of Washington and having Hoyeon on the first Billboard I see welcoming me, was so validating. AMAZING INTERVIEW, thanks Variety!

A young native Korean actress and a Korean-Canadian veteran, what a pair!
I am always so amazed by people whose alphabet isn't latin to learn any western language. I can barely master 3 and they are all within the Latin alphabet but I can't imagine how hard it is to not only learn completely new vocabulary and grammar but at the same time new letters that you have no connection to whatsoever. Like I don't know any Italian but from the languages I do speak I can make the smallest amount of sense by looking at words at least but looking at for example arabic or Japanese or Thai like damn you guys have superpowers if you have picked up any western language.
@pochatablet5948

In Korea you study English from a young age, and the latin alphabet is used quite extensively on shop signs, and brands and advertising. You need to get a minimum score on an English proficiency test, TOEIC, to graduate high school. However, actual proficiency with English communication is not usually good. Korean students used to also learn hundreds of Chinese-style characters called Hanja, but not so much any more. My partner is Korean, and also studied Japanese briefly, and I'm amazed at the fact that she can muddle through two Korean writing systems, Latin, as well as Japanese writing systems, and now is picking up some French as well.

I'm a korean who speaks 3 languages including my native language Korean. I’m so glad that there is someone who recognizes the efforts. It is true, in Korea, we learn English from the young age in school. And cause koreans are highly educated, we can speak English but not that fluently. It requires so much efforts cause we do not use latin letters as you said. There is no relation like French-Spanish or French-English, etc for korean and other western languages. That’s why I’m furious when some westerners point out my accents on purpose(to mock me) though I’m trying to say something in their language. Like hello, I’m trying! I really want to ask them, “hey, then you speak korean as I speak this language?" During 8 years, I've never met someone who pronounces my name correctly in Europe. Three syllables, simple but difficult for them. But I’m trying to say hundreds of sentences to make a statement or have a conversation with you. So, I really appreciate ppl who appreciate my efforts to live with my 2nd or 3rd language.
@ammaranwar5343

Not really. The Latin alphabet is everywhere so you'd have to not have had any formal education to not be able to at least read it. Making sense of it, yeah I guess.

2 amazing people having a consistently good conversation
At first I thought they were gonna do this in full Korean, but them conversing in English surprised me, esp with Hoyeon! This was such an enjoyable video and I got to learn a lot from these bits they showed to us as actresses. Such a complicated job, I respect them.
I could watch Sandra Oh doing interviews and being interviewed all day long. This was the perfect A on A pairing, cos Sandra is so mindful and understanding with the conversation and situational context.
산드라오 배우가 아시안 여배우로서 서구 사회에서 겪으며 성장해 온 그 여정을 경험으로 어린 후배의 고민들을 담담히 공감해주고 조언해주는 모습이 너무 뜻 깊게 느껴집니다.
I hope Ho-Yeon left this interview feeling that she has a friend and a mentor in Sandra.
Not to mention that they are both great spirits and great actors, Hoyeon looks damn cute.
I’m a native Korean and I am so proud of them!! Sandra랑 호연이 함께 인터뷰를 하다니!!! 내 생에 이런 걸 보는 날이 오는구나ㅏ I first met Sandra in Grey’s, and I am still watching some videos of Sandra because of her perspective of the world. I was always envious of Korean Americans since I think they could have more opportunities, not noticing about their troubles in their life. But I saw Sandra interviewing with Sharon Choi, and then i realize i was totally wrong. Thank you Sandra for sharing your opinions with us. And I am always a big fan of you in Korea!
Jung Ho-Yeon should get more roles, she's so relatable, sweet, and a genuine person.
Such a mom&daughter vibe. Love them so much!
Such a great pairing, I feel like Sandra could really offer comfort and guidance. She has been someone the Asian community has relied on to represent us for a long time and I think it’s a beautiful thing that she can pass her wisdom along. When you’re an Asian actor surrounded by Asian actors there’s less pressure to represent Asian people but when it’s just you or you’re on a bigger platform viewed by westerners, the pressure is immense because you have to do it all, represent it all.
Sandra Oh is very wise and nice and Hoyeon is so cute, attentive, and intelligent! The perfect duo! I love them as actors and the passion they put in their projects. Proud of having them as superstars in the Americas

This is one of the most intellectual Actor on Actor interview i have ever seen and also as a single actor interview. The curiosity, the revelations, the experience, all of them were well mashed and well taken by both the actors. I hope Variety prepares and conduct more of such complex, in-depth and insightful interviews. My being an Asian has NOTHING to do with my comments. I viewed this interview from a Literature major perspective and the result was a big smile on my face. Thank you Variety for this wonderful interview 🤞

I am also a Korean gyopo (European) and I enjoyed watching the interview just for Sandra Oh, she's so deep and articulate and a great actress! It's a shame Hoyeon didn't really answer some of the questions Sandra asked, such as the one on how native Koreans see Korean Americans...Hoyeon started speaking about her experience in "representing" Korean Americans when going to the US, so basically she didn't answer the question. I can see Sandra was not satisfied with the response, but she gracefully followed the topic Hoyeon started. Love Sandra!
Such a great pairing!! I really enjoyed watching these two women (:
Im extremely impressed by her english skills, she was able to express and word her thoughts perfectly, wow. Idk if she’s always been good but im just impressed because at the SAG awards she used a translator, maybe she was nervous. But anyways, this was so good and so nice to watch.
Imagine being interviewed with Sandra Oh after your first acting gig🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️
this was probably one of the best AoA interview's I've seen! So much raw emotion and vulnerability, especially about the Asian representation part!
NOW this is what conversation should be my god .. love love people talking about life , their interest .
I was watching and half way through when they started talking about Asian representation in media and I started bawling my eyes out because it's so important to have that conversation. More impressive to see both perspectives. Very beautiful and lovely.
I love that Ho-Yeon has someone on her side in the west, especially since it's Sandra Oh
This conversation was so raw, i truly could feel all the emotions they were trying to convey. I admire them so much.
Somehow there’s no interviewer makes this interview more genuine. So lovely.
God I hope they give Jung Ho-Yeon more roles in the future. She was fantastic in Squid Game. Besides her modeling career, I'm looking forward to see her in both foreign and Hollywood movies. She deserves it.
This pairing is so wholesome! I want them in a movie together as either sisters or as a mom and daughter.
my only criticism is that this was too short!! i could watch them talk about acting forever 🥹
Her Speaking and understanding English has improved since last year
Ugh! I loved this conversation! It honestly felt like I was intruding on a private convo between a girl and her auntie.
Hoyeoon has the talent and the looks to become a superstar actress. And even her personality is so amazing. That's probably the best thing about her.

This pairing is wonderful. SO great to see both of them just having a conversation. We can see that Ho Yeon, really wants to lean from Sandra and asks great questions and Sandra is giving her all great answers.

It takes 1.5 years in a native environment setting to be able to understand the dialogue and communicate in a broken language. Then it takes another 1.5 years to be able to fully communicate with the locals. Then it takes another 2 years to learn the 'common' words the natives know from Kindergarten - Highschool Then the rest is history and it is up to you to learn further knowledge. This is a natural way of learning a language without too much education. But of course, if you have a purpose to learn, it can be achieved rather sooner than later through investing your time.
