Nah! Faddis is the mensch.
Those guys are both beasts!! The beginning was the intro to the first cut on Faddis’ “Into the Faddisphere” project. Arguments could be made for who’s better but they’re fruitless. Both are brilliant and incredibly talented. The world of jazz is forever better from both of their life’s work.
Always amazes me how people feel they must take sides or proclaim who's better. As far as I know, Arturo and Jon love each other, based on mutual respect for their lifelong devotion to the craft of Dizzy Atmosphere :) Yes it's a " duel " but a friendly one -- after Faddis' first lick you can see Sandoval nod in approval. I think the sound quality is really bad on this clip. I've seen both Faddis and Sandoval live many times over the past 30-40 years (including Faddis when he was a very young cat ) and both have a really beautiful sound on the horn for players who can instantly traverse all registers. ( Brass players know that if you focus on a certain range it's much easier to have a beautiful sound in that range. ) When I watch this clip I just get sad that both Jon and Arturo are now in their mid-60s. I remember how sad I was when I woke up one day and MF was gone. But que sera sera. To the person who said "All those wealthy white people are all like "WTF"?" - exactly which old white people are you referring to ? Dizzy Gillespie ?
That night in Tunisia ending! Ayyyye

Facts i was like lemme get tha horn quick and transcribe that :0
I actually got to meet Jon Faddis in Chicago last December.
WOW !! never seen this before ....Awesome !!!!
Years ago i played the trumpet 🎺. When it comes to those extremely low and high notes🎵 that are off the scale, you actually have to hear them in your head before playing them and some times the valve positions don't matter.
WHOAH. This goes for Arturo. He had better improvisation going up and back down
Faddis tells a story, great
Haha. Would be awesome to see more of that performance!
Why is not there more of this video? I'd like to see more of this
At a certain level in music it comes down to prference. these two virtuosos are extremely talented and skilled. The only thing we could, MAYBE, agree on is technique, Faddis is playing effortlessly while Arturo is clearly making some big efforts. Maybe it's just how he expresses himself.

Because Arturo is playing way higher that's why lol
Excellent
Hey all, what kind of Record is that? Is there a DVD about this or a full version of the Concert?
son unicos los dos
juste pour se chauffer ... deux excellents musiciens ...
both fantastic, sandoval wins.
Great pissing contest
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍
The internet took a while to load. Hahahaha!
which concert is this /how can we find all parts of this concert????
Ok they can do that, but the music is for when?
Sandoval é il più forte di tutti! Non ha eguali!
This is not a duel between Arturo and Jon. What they are playing is a cadenza at the end of, "A Night In Tunisia." If you don't believe me visit this KZread video (kzread.info/dash/bejne/aXuHsrOge8ndm8o.html) and skip to 1:36:18. Notice the notes played by Frank Greene are very similar to that played by Arturo and Faddis near the end of the "duel." Also, on the 35th second of this video (not the video I sourced), that is Dizzy Gillespie sitting in the audience.

Haha. All those wealthy white people are all like "WTF"?
Sandoval is great but sounds like he's playing high-note exercises here.
Faddis!
Arturo may have gotten John this time 🎺: who else is on this level?
Faddis high notes has cleaner precission sound.Sandoval is a bit higher.
Cannot be real!!
i havent watched the video yet but sandoval>faddis. we all kno it

No, it was about 25 years ago, the dawn of video on the internet, when video clips were about 2x3 inches on a 15” CRT monitor.
O som do Faddis é mais bonito.

Arturo Sandoval 👍🏼
SANDOVAL
Arturo wins trumpet
TOO BLURRY
il n y a pas que des blancs riches!! heureusement!!!
Isn't this more of a conversation between two fine players? Why a duel? Seems childish and egotistical to me. Competetive playing is not very constructive, especially in the long run. Just my .02

It’s very constructive (as long as you don’t take it too seriously) and very fun. And I would call it a conversation only if it were two good jazz trumpeters trading, not a high note fest.
They should learn Chet baker’s solo. Both are a boring style. They emphasizes only high notes.
Always loved John faddis playing, he's playing is effortless, nothing againts Arturo, never liked his sound, improvisation Ok, Johns far more impressive performing live than arturo. My intake, Arturo is better playing piano than trumpet. Ive seen this dude live on several occassions, meaning Arturo, there are far too many trumpeters far better than him. I could name a ton of them. To overratted in my opinión, he's improved on his sound i do admit, definitely he's no wynton, Tom harell, gregbgisbert, kysor, not Even close.
