I have linked a tutorial on sanding coasters and preparing them for the final clear coat. a clear look at the before and after. Sanding coasters and adding a final clear coat is a personal preference. I find the smoother finish accentuates the 3d depth of the coaster and gives it a more polished look. The process is quick using a Dremel. It doesn't have to be perfect, when you use a good doming resin, the resin will level out once you are ready to put on your final coat.
