Sanders: ‘There’s Not One Republican Who Will Support A $15 Minimum Wage’ | All In | MSNBC

“The only way that we are going to raise the minimum wage is through reconciliation or ending the filibuster. In my view, I do not see in the foreseeable future getting significant support from Republicans,” says Sen. Bernie Sanders. Aired on 02/24/2021.

He believes in what he does, Bernie actually has integrity and his intentions come from a good place. It should be commended. However, his ideas are terrible. Anyone who essentially idolizes Hoover and FDR policies like the New Deal needs to take a hike. There's a reason why the Great Depression lasted 12 years when every recession/depression before it and after it lasted only 4. Trying to artificially correct the market ALWAYS leads to catastrophic failure. WW2 saved the economy, not FDR. Look up what happened when they raised minimum wage to 12/hr. 500,000 blacks were unemployed in the south alone because it backfired. You have to let the free market run itself, it ebbs and it flows but it always corrects itself. Government intervention is NEVER the solution

Amazon, target, costco etc. already pay a 15 dollar wage. Point is it is OPTIONAL for the employer to pay a wage based on the income of the business. Do you honestly think a small restaurant or store can afford a 15 dollar minimum wage? Everything would inflate from gas to toilet paper. What you people don’t understand is the minimum wage is not made to be lived on but rather a stepping stone to move up in life. What’s broken is your lack of knowledge of simple economics. If Democrats would cut spending on wasteful inefficient programs and sending hundreds of billions of dollars overseas our deficit would lower and inflation would drop.

@@davidkoba What you do not understand is that the so-called step-up wage has become a reference wage for the rest of the employers. (workers inoff)Since society has been ransacked by the rich (since reagan), wages have fallen steadily. According to the 70's norm it should be 21 dollars. The moral now is: the minimum wage is the norm (the rest earn too much) and the hardworking is the norm (the rest work too slowly) And as for the minimum payers, if your company can only survive by exploiting the others you must go bankrupt. All those companies that then go bankrupt are, as it were, catching up to recovery. Recovery that will therefore be preceded by a difficult period. Everything came about because we went for "quick money" .... especially in the 90's

@@henkholdingastate do you realize what will happen when all these companies go bankrupt? Hundreds of thousands of jobs lost and more ui nemefits wasted. Leads to higher prices on goods caused by more inflation. What you don't realize is the need for a higher wage is now being caused by government spending increasing the deficit. If you pay attention to the stock market right now everyone is super scared of the rising yields on government bonds. I support of a company is doing well and wants to pay a higher wage but for the federal government to force it is unethical. If you don't like the wage don't take the job.

When your making $30 minimum wage, and a gallon of milk costs $15 then what??? There needs to be a profit limit for every thing, and everybody. Just like there needs to be a resource limit. And we need to limit our resources to using sustainable resources as much as possible. But people are greedy, self destructive, lazy, destructive, don't look at the long term implications of their actions, and are incompetent. Humans across the planet need to focus on being mentally advanced, behaviorally advanced, and wait to implement science/technology advancements after really researching long term possible negative effects on the well being of our world. Time, and again human cultures have failed because of failure to think through, and correctly value what is organically around themselves, and their own existence.

The left has strayed from core family values in recent times and I can no longer back their lack of morals. Ie. allowing minors who we don’t allow to even drink alcohol get gender modification treatments without parental consent. There is a clear line on the right that separates radicalism. The left has yet to draw that line on their side and until it is defined I cannot support them. 7. The left if for increased government spending despite a widening national deficit that is inflating the economy through federal band yields. I wish they would be more transparent about where our money goes like for this current relief bill costing 1.9 trillion dollars. That's just ridiculous. We the people need to stop being so self absorbed and start caring more for others. Especially those in need. I am never one to ask for anything from anybody. I'd rather die than to ask for help from anybody. But in the same since, I lost my uncle. He was a homeless man with no job who died on the streets. I wish i could have helped him somehow. Money is the root of all evil. We shouldn't let money turn US people on each other like this. We are all stuck on this planet together and we all have to survive. So if people need the minimum wage to go up to help them survive in this country, then so be it. That shouldn't be such a big issue. We should be proud to help people be able to live and take care of their kids and families. Not try to tear them down. We need to be better people all together. And this is the first step we need to take to do that. Maybe if the wage was 15 dollars back then, maybe my uncle would still be alive today. He was a good hearted man, and one of the only people in my life that even cared that I was alive. So, I'm all for doing the right things to ensure people are able to live and support themselves.

A blanket imposition of minimum wage would be wrong. I propose that small businesses should pay $14, medium-sized businesses should pay $14.5 and big businesses pay $15. Moreover, I propose that this increase in minimum wage for small and medium businesses should be phased in over a 3 to 4 year period. So, there could be $2 increase this year, $2 next year and so forth. Furthermore, a range should be allowed and a decision would have to be made at the municipal level what businesses pay in that municipality or county area. I propose a range of $13-14 for small businesses, a range of $13-14 for medium-sized businesses and $14-15 for big businesses. By allowing the minimum wage to be set at the municipal level, you ensure that rural areas of the country are given some relief and are allowed to prosper. Having ranges like this and allowing the minimum wage to be set at the municipal level would ensure that areas of the country which are struggling will be allowed to impose a lower minimum wage than urban areas, while still supporting workers with decent living wages. Please forward these ideas to your congress representatives. #RuralEconomies #SmallBusiness

If you can't afford to pay your employees enough that they can take care of themselves, you don't deserve to be in business. A National living wage so employees can afford to shop somewhere other than Amazon and Wal-Mart is the best thing we can do to actually support local businesses. Millions of Americans can't afford to shop local because they are underpaid. Especially rural areas, with a poor economy and limited options... If you only work at Wal-Mart you can only afford to shop a tiny amount at that Wal-Mart... While every taxpayer supports you on welfare medical state assistance, and food stamps... All to give Sam waltons horrible children money that they'll never spend. Poor people who want to support small businesses don't have the money to do so. That's why the economy is terrible over all. Increased demand from products and services is suppressed by starvation wages, and 15 is already a national minimum low, in urban areas you need 25 an hour to live comfortably.

@@carrieullrich5059 "If you can't afford to pay your employees enough that they can take care of themselves, you don't deserve to be in business." That is cruel and arrogant. This is the attitude that causes Democrats to lose elections in rural America and lose small business voters. If policies cannot distinguish between the rich and the people in the middle, then there is no hope for America as a country.

@@carrieullrich5059 I agree that in urban areas you need $25 but my argument still is that any increase should be phased in and there should be some relief for small and medium sized businesses and the rural areas

Raise minimum wage sounds great but when it's mandated companies will reduce workforce use more automation. The small businesses will be destroyed.

Citation needed. The biggest effect will be on massive corporations like Walmart. In addition, raising the minimum wage is way overdue. If the minimum wage had kept pace with worker productivity then it would be $22 now. Of all the developed countries the US is in last place in the ratio of minimum wage to average wage. Most countries are at 40% or above while the US languishes at 24%.

As a conservative Republican. It's absolutely SHAMEFUL, PATHETIC, that the richest country on earth even allows people earn $8 fking dollars an hour. I own several restaurants and I can not wait to pay my employees a decent minimum wage of $15 p HR. I wish I could now.
