I imagine that many others in my age group, (I waa ten in 1991) who grew up in Cubs' nation will agree, Ryne Sandburg was damn near a superhero. Classy dude, bringing up Santo and Dawson
pretty good speech for a guy who wasn't all about gabbing it up. he played the game like it should be played. i see a lot of ryne sandberg in current cub kris bryant.
Underrated player and video! He played the game the way it should be played. What a role model for baseball players.
Every kid playing baseball should watch this speech and see what it means to respect the game and be a great teammate.
Sandberg, Morgan, and Alomar - the three finest second basemen of the modern era.
these people arent public speakers if they slip up, or their comedic timing isnt on, they get a pass. Best Ever RYNO
Love the NC High and Spokane, WA mention. My hometown.
Ryne Sandberg was such a class act when he played and afterwards as a manager. Ryno was our only true bright and shining star in the 80's and also the best in the 90's. I have met him twice and I have some great pic's of him. I felt like a little kid meeting my biggest hero even when I was an adult. Thank you Ryne for doing everything the right way. Your still my favorite player ever among greats like Rizzo, Bryant, Contreras, Dawson ,Sutcliff and many more Cubs greats. Thank you for all that you did for us Cubs fans and the game of baseball.

I think the jury is still out on Rizzo, Bryant, and Contreras (maybe not Rizzo, he's legit)
Bud Selig could pass for Stephen Hawking's twin.
12:30 Shawn Dunston remark was hilarious!
You are a fool. This is by far one of the best speeches of all time.

Agreed
My favorite player of all-time.
I think every baseball player playing today should watch this.
RYNO - Always classy - He was a quiet leader who led by example
Greatest Cubs Second baseman Of ALL TIME.
what a great ball player.
Came here while reading Bob Beck's book, Thanks for the memories. love Ryno!!
Ryno is a real class act.
One of the greatest speeches I have ever listened to
Respect..
greatest ever.
Maybe not best 2nd baseman ever, but definitely the best of his era. And probably in top 5 ever.
The greatest of all time, imo. I may be bias as a Cubs fan. Ryno!

@Ladh 70 defensively, I agree. Uh, Not a bad hitter, either
This guy had class.
I love how he mentions Pete Rose over and over. Maybe it was to F with the Hall of Fame

That was a total jab at Bud Selig.
I was fully expecting him to be chased from the podium and replaced by Justin DeFratus.
I can see why mayyybe he didn’t make it as a MLB Manager. A lot of guys don’t play the game with the “respect for the game”.
every time I see Tommy Lasorda I think Kurt Bevaqua who couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.
Selig looks totally uninterested and bored. Disrespect.

Listening to Sandberg's speech reminds me of what Derek Jeter may say in 2020.
@barrywagoner5191

Haha, yeah, Jeter showed The Hawk a massive amount of “respect” in Miami.
Sandberg would have had better career numbers, but I seem to remember him taking a long time off to deal with his batshit crazy wife during a messy divorce.

Yes, Rose was amazing.
top 5
THIS is what baseball was supposed to be all about. It's changed now. I'm out.
Love the obvious swipes at Sammy (most overrated player in history)

Best speech ever! Play the game it should be played and have respect. Act like you been there before. Ryno makes these new showboats dancing in the dugout and whatnot look like a bunch of little kids. Id take guys like Ryno, Biggio, Schmidt, Ozzie, among others over these guys any day. Baseball was better then.....
Yes, players need to be real players again. Hit for avg! Steal, hit and run, move a runner over. The game isn’t good anymore. Hitting 220 or so is embarrassing

Facts you are so dam right
Person is asked to make a wish. Person replies -Middle East Peace. Cubs in World Series. Angel said Middle East Peace is possible but not Cubs winning World Series. Cubs win but there is still no true Middle East Peace
1- Hornsby 2- Collins 3- Jackie 4- Morgan 5- Lajoie
RE23ECT
Bud Selig, always a horrible person, he talks the entire speech, leaves at one point. total clown terrible commissioner of baseball. so disrespectful of Reno's moment.
possibly the worst induction speach/speaker of all-time. CLEAR EYES....

Actually I think this is one of the greatest speeches I have ever heard. Something up there with what F D R or Winston Churchill have said. And then it really hammers it home to know what type of character Rhyno had as a ball player
@randylargent5579

He’s a base ball player. His actions speak louder than words. It is actually a great speech. He’s very humble and has respect for even the people he didn’t like. Ryno is a true and real role model. Sorry you couldn’t recognize that this is Ryno’s speech.
