It's the best patter of this summer. I finished making one and I'm making another one right away.

This is a great pattern. Thank you so much for the work you've put in to get it looking so good. When you get that front post cluster done, the texture is soooo satisfying. 🤩 I decided to make some as hanging ornaments instead of coasters. I used drops safran 4-ply cotton yarn and a 2mm hook to keep them smaller, and then to stop them being quite as gappy (which i find happens when working trebles particularly in lighter yarns) i switched out the treble crochets for double crochets. For the last round, instead of the lovely crab edge that looks great for the coaster, i used scs and hdcs to create a very subtle, gently wavy edge. I also found that keeping the tension quite firm all the way through helped them keep their shape when they are suspended. Gosh i love them. I'm going to make a bunch of them to give to friends as decorations. Thanks again. 🤗

Hi, love this pattern. The last stitch took me several tries and backing you up before I got it. When you pull the first loop through going backwards you need to make sure that loop comes up UNDER the loop on the hook then pull through 2. That’s how you get the pretty border. Thanks.

A Sand Dollar has Five holes. There is one large hole in the center. I just thought these were so cute, but looked “off” so I got a real sand dollar out and noticed the extra hole immediately because it is larger than the other holes. Thank you for the instructions. 😀

btw for the last round i wound up just switching hands. im left handed, and doing everything horseshoe means just doing single crochets with my right hand, which was way easier than doing it backwards

I love this!! Thank you so much for sharing, I had to go up a hook size, do you think I should add 2 chains for the holes instead of one? For me they look almost no different and you cant really tell there is a hole, i dont know how much this will throw off the count though.

This is really cute but like others, I had a bit of a hard time following your instructions especially when it came to where I should add two stitches vs. one stitch and the stitch count. Would help a lot if you gave the stitch count at the end of each row. Thank you.

Yes I had to add numerous extra stitches to make it lay flat. Other than that, cute pattern!

mine started to flatten out as I used them! Having a constant weight on the entire circle somehow relaxed the stitches enough to just cooperate

I made 3 of these, but they don't seem to lie flat-and I'm not just referring to the raised arms. I make tons of hats to donate to the poor so I am familiar with working in the round. It seems as long as I increase, the item stays flat. The entire coaster increases, but it has a little curl. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Sounds like it might be your tension. Try going up a hook size and see if that flattens them out. :)

Have you ever made an afghan using your dollars? You know turned them into a granny square and creative and Afghan? If so do you have the instructions or pattern?

What a great idea! I can work on that. For the most part, I would suggest making these to the last round, then instead of finishing with a crab stitch, use the last round to attach the circles together into a blanket, either with diamond-shaped holes between them or with granny square stitches holding them together.

i cannot pull it tight, what is the loop on the hook?

​@@Jasmine-sc9uoI started mine with a magic circle because I'm used to that method for circular projects. Once i had my magic circle, I chained two to count as the first dc stitch and then crocheted 9 dc into the circle, slip-stitched into the chain to join and pulled it tight in the usual way you would for a magic circle. I would suggest you use whatever method is most familiar to you for starting a circular project but just make sure you have a stitch count of 10 dcs before you move onto round 2. 😊

How do you start it off is it just a slipknot or a magic circle???? I dont understand how you can pull it tight and the hole becomes smaller cause when i use a slipknot it doesnt work...please i need help..somebody💀

You can start it with a magic circle if you are more comfortable with it.

Why isn't there 5 holes? This is the most accurate sand dollar pattern I've found except for the missing hole. I would also love to see how to turn this into a granny square to make an afghan pattern. Link above does not go to a written pattern only to a group of videos. At least this will hopefully get me started in the right direction. Thank you.

I am sorry, but I had a hard time following your video. Lots of instructions were unclear to me the first time you said them and I had to go back several times to repeatedly watch what you actually meant. It was better were you explain more detailed.

Thank you for the video tutorial. My only feedback is that for those of us who are hard of hearing and unable to read your lips while you are talking- saying “DC” instead of double crochet is very difficult. Maybe closed captioning in the future or say the whole word?
